Posted 24 Sep 2018 Hi all, I recently acquired my Germany driver's license. In order to do this, I had to exchange my New York driver's license. My US license was not valid to use in Germany since I've lived here since 2002. I want to rent a car in Cologne but am told that I had to have be in possession of a German driver's license for a year or at least half a year if I use Avis/Budget. This is quite frustrating, considering all the hoops I had to jump through to finally get this German license! Can anyone recommend a place in Cologne where I can rent a car from without this restriction? Perhaps a local rent a car company, one not found at the airport, or something... Thank you!
