Diesel cars banned in Frankfurt

Munich is one of the very few cities without a full Autobahn ring. And if you think the A99 is a nightmare, you should have seen the traffic on the B471 back in the day and you could spend all hours of fun trying to get past the traffic light at Etterschlag before the A98 was finished.

Yea, it's annoying that the A99 isn't the full 360. Munich isn't such a big city. I would guess that with a full Autobahn ring and none of the European through traffic then the road system would easily cope with local traffic.

Would have thought, building a new autobahn from Munich airport to near Rosenheim would improve things for Munich, as  most of the traffic is going from North to south or reverse. Most of the traffic on the A99, does not have M as the first letter on the number plate, they are just passing through. Munich's middle ring gets clogged up when the big jams come on the A99.

Absolutely.

Yep, I'm one of them. I would ordinarily go to and from work on the A99, but end up 90% of the time driving through town in some way. The lack of routes across the Isar are a bit of a bottle neck too though I have to say, so an A99 relief road won't help too much with that.

What I'm missing in the debate is that you may want to drive to other countries which may not have enough chargers. Or that your EV may not be allowed onto a ferry (only recently a Norwegian ferry line banned them). Switzerland is also considering a ban of EVs because they a worried that there may not be sufficient capacity to generate electricity.

What debate? You can cross Europe easily with a good EV. Don't spread FUD.

Reason is Pullach and Grünwald will only accept an underground passage through them, and that raised the cost of finishing the ring to over 1200M€.

Sure but if I want to make a longer trip I can fill my ICE car in 7 mins, either the day before or on the way. But my point is people plan more with EV's because the range is not as good, the thing I like about ICE cars is there is less planning ( but bad for the environment), just get in and drive, you will always find a petrol station within 30 miles of your position in most developed places.

You probably spend 7 minutes every 2 weeks on the pump. I don't spend any minute, except for long trips.

I used to plan charging with my Tesla... then I realized there was no need.

And as of Feb. 1st 2023, in Munich too:

https://www.sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/muenchen-diesel-fahrverbot-mittlerer-ring-karte-umweltzone-1.5669819#:~:text=Fahrzeuge%20mit%20der%20Schadstoffklasse%20Euro,Fahrzeuge%20der%20Schadstoffklasse%205%20gelten.

https://www.green-zones.eu/en/blog-news/munich-new-diesel-driving-bans-from-2023

Basically Euro4 is banned from 2023.02.

Euro5 is expected to be banned in 2023.10.

Euro6 and all previous exemptions banned in 2024.04 if still not good enough air quality.

As Euro4, 5 and six share the same 'green' sticker, I am guessing they will need to also revise this.

What I am not entirely sure of, is if the environmental zone is extended to INCLUDE the middle ring road itself. I think it does.

Thats because you cab charge at your work for free and you can charge low cost at home( as you have said here ), and your general attitude is you do not care for the many people that cannot do this, because you are all right.

All I read and see on youtube is how to plan when using a lower cost EV, but of course because you have a higher cost EV, then its not your problem, so it does not matter. Read  above above about FF planning on 2 stops on a trip to Dusseldorf.

As said above, this  will get better over time and more public

But for now the situation is not ideal depending on your situation, but it will get better as more chargers are installed

By the way I am happy for you, because you can do this, but understand its not the same for everybody and I support the transition, but we need to think about people who cannot afford an EV for 47000 Euro Model 3

Actually, the car does the planning. Put destination in navi and then click on find charging stations. All within range show up. Choose one. That's it. It takes you there.

Does it plan to stop only in chargers with gourmet food?

Sorry, nothing against you, actually I appreciate your input because it is super honest, not like you know who's.

That's funny. We had gourmet food 3 nights in a row in D'dorf. Sandwiches, salads, cake and coffee are fine when we're on the road. It will be the same in March when we drive to Italy and back. One day of road food and 18 days of gourmet food.

Car is charged in 20 minutes. No time for 3 course meals.:D

Really? In all of Cyprus  (where I'm living) there are only 42 charging stations and if you're in Northern Cyprus you'd have to cross the border to the South in order to find one ( which btw you'll need an EU-passport for if you entered Cyprus via ferry from Turkey).

Cyprus is only about 100km wide so assuming you did not plan to go to the north an EV should be able to do just about any journey both there and back without needing to recharge,;)

Firstly, it's more like 300 km Paphos to Karpass), secondly, I do go to the North occasionally, and thirdly (and that was my actual point) how to get there in the first place?

Cyprus. Another European destination it never once crossed my mind that I might drive to. Now that it has crossed my mind, my opinion is fixed. I will never, ever, drive to Cyprus. Happy to fly there again though.

How long does it take to fill an ICE and how long to charge an EV?

it takes me about 3-5 seconds to plug in my car when using an at-home charger.  Double that to unplug it and return the plug to its holster.

I really miss getting diesel and/or gasoline all over my hands when fueling up.

I miss comparing prices at the pumps and avoiding ever filling up on the autobahns due to extortionate service station prices.

I see you didn´t actually read the quote you quoted in context or maybe just didn´t read anything.

My point is that it doesn't matter how long it takes to go from say 20% charge to 90% for everyday usage.  It's not like you're hanging out at the gas station buying shitty hot dogs waiting for the car to be ready.

If you were talking about fast charging on a long trip (it doesn't seem like you were), yeah, there's a bit of overhead compared to charging for day-to-day driving, but it's not much different than a road trip in an ICE car.
