Sing Carols on the City Hall Balcony 17.Dec.2018 Marienplatz with ESME e.V.

The English-Speaking Music Ensembles e.V. (ESME) Singers, founded here on Toytown in 2008, have been asked to sing carols for the Christmas Market from the Rathausbalkon above Marienplatz.  We will perform 10 songs, mostly carols with a couple winter songs thrown in, from 17.30 – 17.55.  We will probably all go have Glühwein afterwards (and maybe some before!).

Rehearsals for this very special opportunity begin this week, on Wednesday, Sept. 5.  We will also be rehearsing for our Dec. 9 Christmas concert together with the ESME Orchestra and Big Band at the Gasteig.  If you join, we would expect you to perform at both events.  They'll have different repertoire -- the Gasteig concert will only feature half the carols, but will definitely feature at least one joint piece with our 45-member orchestra.  Plus also we have a rehearsal Weekend Away every year, Nov. 9-11 this year at Schloss Alteglofsheim near Regensburg, which is extreme fun.  (Everybody's voice range has dropped a bit by Sunday because of the late nights...)

ESME has been trying for years to get to do this caroling gig.  Most choirs have already been doing it for 30 years, so some choir must have retired -- similar to trying to get a season ticket for FC Bayern -- who are the other people most often pictured on that balcony when they celebrate their championships.

Even if you're just here for the next few months, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you.  We would like to be able to do this every year, but maybe they're switching to rotating through the 80 choirs Munich has!  ESME is one of the few that rehearse in English though, perfect for the international community.

The choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 19:15 - 21:15 at

Please let us know with this form if you'd like to come along and try us out!  (We do not hold formal auditions, but you will get a four-week trial period to decide if you'd like to join. And of course like all choirs, we need more men than women, but do tell us all about your experience and maybe our conductor will be convinced!

If you don't want to sing, maybe you play double bass or trombone? In that case, the orchestra or Big Band could use you!  Fill out that same form... and if you just want to see the show, add it to your digital calendar with our Facebook events:

Formerly known as the TT Orchestra and Singers, the English-Speaking Music Ensembles formed an Orchestra of 5 people at the end of 2008 and now have an orchestra of 45 people, a choir of 60 and a Big Band -- and we became an e.V. in 2011.

We usually play about 2 - 3 concerts a year. In 2010 we had our debut at the Gasteig. We're about *everyone* enjoying playing, no matter their standard or the last time they even looked at an instrument. We're also about having fun and enjoying a good social life! Rehearsals are all in English, and the Singers don't even need to know how to read music -- though you should be able to carry a tune..

This is happening tonight, folks!  If you couldn't get tickets to last weekend's sold-out Gasteig concert, this is your last time to see ESME in action in 2018.  Rehearsals for all three ensembles will start up late January / early February next year, but we'll be having a break after this one -- come out to see us tonight at 17:30 and meetup for Glühwein afterwards in the Residenz!
