Scum of the Day

Following French Bean's excellent idea!

These 3 ought to have their own thread - Scum of the day.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-manchester-45114152

Taken from the article:

'Three members of a notorious grooming gang will be stripped of their British citizenship following a court ruling.

Abdul Aziz, Adil Khan and Qari Abdul Rauf were among nine men jailed for offences including the rape and trafficking of girls as young as 13 in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, in 2012.

Theresa May, then Home Secretary, began the process in 2015 by ruling that the men should not remain British.

Court of Appeal judges rejected a legal challenge from the men.'

When I saw the post, I thought: Must be "Asians".

Correct.

Why do Brits call "Asians" to middle east/arabic guys?

For me Asians is Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamits, etc.

The usual trope.  There are "good" Asians and "bad" Asians.   The UK has extremely closely links with Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka in particular.  This is fairly embedded in aspects of our culture, such as Indian food being our most popular.  They are Asian to us, for sure.

However, I also did a double take yesterday when I saw an article about New Zealand listed on the Asia section of the BBC website.  Easy to forget it's that that continent too.   It's as Asian as the UAE or South Korea.  Or indeed Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.   When we encounter an Australian, at least of certain backgrounds, I am not sure many of us think "oh look, there goes an Asian" like with would with a Pakistani.   So our stereotype of who is "Asian" - or not - exists as well.

But of course it's where most of the world live, so of course it's gonna be very diverse.  Question might be why our small European landmass is a "continent" while that giant one is as well.  Ye olde colonial world?   Business tends to break it down (e.g. EMEA).

World champions of child sexual abuse, the Catholic Church returns to the fore to show off just how institutionally bad it can be.

Quote

According to the grand jury report of six dioceses in Pennsylvania, over a period of 70 years, 300 priests abused over 1,000 children in Pennsylvania and Church officials repeatedly covered it up. The release of the report is a searing indictment of the filth that has existed in the Catholic church.

Sexual abuse has been institutionalized, routinized and tolerated by the church hierarchy for decades. If you think this statement is hyperbole, consider that the grand jury report includes, but is by no means limited to, the case of a ring of pedophile priests in the Pittsburgh, who raped their male victims, took pornographic pictures of them and marked them by giving them gold crosses to wear so that they could be easily recognized by other abusers.

Are you back on your crusade?

Yeah, men are everywhere. So are male criminals. But you don't care about most of them.  https://americanspcc.org/child-abuse-statistics/

No, A2L just doesn't want to have to talk about this here and is doing what can be done to deflect.

Australia and new zealand tend to be put on the austrolasia contienent rather than asia, but it is true that the dividing up of where is where is a bit arbitrary.  But to say that they are as much asia as south korea is a bit weird, korea is part of the mainland.

If we were to follow the eurovision song contest then australia apparently has a claim to being part of europe.  Which is nonsense of course.
