Florianopolis, Brazil

4 posts in this topic

Will be going there for work (end August/beginning to September), but should have a bit of free time, and would like to be able to see and experience a bit while there. I'm not into surfing (whcih does seem to be a big thing there)-- I like history, museums, eating well, shopping, easy walks, seeing the beach.

Anyone been and have any suggestions on what not miss or what to avoid?

I was there for like 6 months working in a software project in the late 90s.    All I remember was meat, beach, beer and caipis.   Shopping centers are a big deal in Brazil.

Depending where you fly into it might be worth checking out an island called ille Grande which is to the north. I spent some time there a few years ago when it was still under developed and it was amazing. Also if you have time Uruguay to the south is real nice, the food in the capital is awesome. It's further still, but Bueanes Aires in Argentina is one of the greatest cities on the planet. With the currency crash it is still super cheap if you have EUR/USD. You can travel around easy using the coaches.
