How to watch UK TV, for a complete novice

7 posts in this topic

Complete novice here - need a solution to get UK TV at short notice, what with the World Cup starting this week.

Have previously (note past tense) been watching UK TV via IPTV (White Label) with a Mag Box 250. I haven't used their services for a few weeks and in the intervening time my subscription has lapsed. Went to renew this morning, only to find their website is unreachable - a little digging suggests that they've been subject to a DNS attack on their servers and the service is down for the foreseeable.

So, what options are there? I want to avoid streaming sites due for matches, mainly due to the legalities as weall as past experience of quality and reliability.

I have in the house (somewhere) an Amazon TV stick from the UK that I've never used, is that an option? Would I need to set up a VPN (like I said, I'd doing novices a disservice by saying I'm a complete novice). Alternatively does https://tvcatchup.com/ work reliably (as suggested on other threads here on TT (I could link this via Apple TV from my iPad)?

Thanks in advance!

If you just want to watch live, connect your PC to your TV and  go here:- https://tvcatchup.com/ Works without a VPN.

There is also a 'tvcatchup' android app here:-  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tvcatchup.android.videoplayer which will work if you can share your phone screen to your TV. (also works without a VPN).

Lastly there is a tvcatchup app for amazon fire-tv devices here https://www.amazon.com/TVCatchup-Watch-Free-Live-TV/dp/B019NPDKVI

Not sure if the amazon version works outside the UK without a VPN though so you are on your own with that one.

TVCatchup works on Fire outside the UK without VPN

Great, I'll give that a try, thanks for the info.

I'd better get looking for my Fire TV Stick in that case

I think the official app is only for Fire TV, not Fire Stick.

I have Kodi installed on my Firestick, and installed the tvcatchup add-on for Kodi and it works perfectly.

Instructions on how to install are here:

https://www.comparitech.com/kodi/tvcatchup-kodi-addon/

If you don't have Kodi, you can google how to sideload it to your Fire Stick
