Smartphone maybe? Put the app on there.

Que?

Sorry, but that is far too technical for me!

(although I recently discovered that clicking on the camera symbol on Whatsapp allows me to have a sort of video conversation...progress is slow here, but it is progress!!!)

You forgot to mention how good-looking I look with only one eye! Like a sexy pirate..unforgivable!

John, just to put your mind at ease.

Can wanking yourself too much make you go blind?

Quote

Relax. Unless you ejaculate in your eyes something very toxic, you will NEVER GO blind by masturbating. Never. Don’t believe all the horseshit. BILLIONS of people do it and see just fine.

Best wishes.  ;)

This means you had the "big" operation, a vitrectomy

What's the difference between a Vitrectomy and a Vasectomy?  Vit-Rectomy?  John, you no longer poop?

I thought you had an eye problem?!

It's a warning to think hard before you retire to isolated rural places where medical facilites are few and far between. I decided against it years ago.

OA is not that isolated. Due to massive tourism you have a good Luftrettung system which can helicopter you to whatever eye clinic you like, I guess the best ones are in Munich and Innsbruck (depending on your insurance, you can choose either).

Also, Klinikum Garmisch / Murnau (they have common doctors working at accident surgery dept) are apparently the best in the country regarding accident surgery.

Basically, no place in Germany is isolated: if there is urgency, you can be helicoptered to any hospital in the country.

Greece is different: it has 800 islands, many of which have basic or no medical facilities, and it seems they have no working air ambulance system. Crete has some villages which are not even accessible by road (only by ferry which goes once a day in the morning).

No kidding. We looked at many places where we could live like royalty. It's always the available health care that stumps us.

IMHO, John needs to first handle the post-op steps, day by day:

- Talk to local eye doctor today to check incision

- Back to hospital (several hundred kilometers away!!) on Monday for checkup, demand surgeon's report and description of procedure, as well as future medication/checkups. Ask questions such as when can he travel?

- Weeks or months of healing , and further checkups. The eyes are a slow tissue!

- Travel to Hamburg (he needs to go on business/adoption missions anyway), assessment in eye clinic.

- Have outrageous drinks with TT friends before he is permitted to leave the country. :D

IMHO John should step away from this thread and concentrate on the healing process.

He should focus on the information given to him first hand by specialists.

My elderly dad has a holiday home in Cyprus.  He and his wife were planning to spend more time there though after a friend's medical emergency there, they are having major second thoughts.

My husband always wanted to retire to the sun though has ditched the idea based on health services.  We'd like to move somewhere more rural in Germany though not too far from civilization.

What qualifies you to make that assessment?

We did the same for my parents.

They are not struggling but there are many places in the world where it is sunny, warm and nice all year round they could go to. Their money would be worth more, they wouldn't have to life a finger or want for much.

The two things that stopped the whole thing were healthcare and them having to learn the language...

John I am passing through Hamburg twice mid-June...

If ypu happen to be around then let me know. Then we can compare notes in person! But if not take care of yourself and your eye. I am sure you are very handsome with your patch but I still prefer two eyes!

Eh, yourkeau, that was humour.  I've stayed in hospital here...twice.  We are isolated.  So much so, I think the ones here are still Barber-Surgeons.
