When you think about doing something nice for somebody, just do it. Immediately. Sometimes I spend too much time thinking and not doing.

I had a lung infection two winters ago. The dr. gave me two week off work, antibiotics right away and the second week a steroid inhaler (which gave me some bad side effects!). Right now my lungs crackle and wheeze only when I lie down on my back at night, so I'm becoming a side rester for now. My lungs are not bubbling /gurgling full like they were with that lung infection. Still, as said here, I will go to the dr. tomorrow if I am still feeling poorly.

That's not good, you need your lungs to clear up fully. Else you could develop chronic bronchitis and - if you have the disposition (genetics) for it - develop asthma. You *might* need to go on a steroid inhaler for at least several weeks to deal with that.

Please see a  specialist and have them do a full lung test / Grosse Lungenfunktion.  That's the one where you sit in a little chamber. It's covered by health insurance. The doctor then will know how to help you.

I thankfully have not come down with the flu, but due to the fact that I am expecting I am paranoid about getting any kind of illness. It seems that between my primary care doctor, gynocologist and the ear/nose/throat specialist everybody is hesitant to give me a straight answer or any kind of medicine.

I had a brutal cold about six weeks ago and have just gotten over (I think) a viral upper respitory infection which kept me out of work for almost two weeks. I actually feel guilty about not being at work but in this country I am not sure what other option I have but to stay at  home when the doctor says I must.

I think a lot of the illness we are experiencing now is an indirect result of that cold snap we had two weeks ago.

I hope everyone feels better soon :)

@fraufruit I did go to the dr. He gave me a few more days off work, saying what I have is a long lasting virus that's going around. He just took another blood sample that checks if I have an infection. Call back on Monday to get results. A month ago same blood test was negative. Don't have a fever today. Just ringing in my ears like tinitus, I get that usually when it's high pollen allergy time so I call it 'the sign that my immune system is working hard.' :)  Got a decent night's sleep with MediNait. Anyone else find Wick a funny name when you grew up with products from Vick? Vicks Vapo Rub. Ha. Body has strength, brain is still fuzzy.

I am down with the 'flu right now - one minute too cold; the next too hot and sweaty...

Had this since yesterday morning now, and took Vicks medinait last night - slept like a baby (not surprising, with 14% alcohol!!!)

Spent most of today sleeping too and still feel like shit.

Maybe tomorrow I will feel a bit better...(?)

Rob, I'm with you.  Been fighting it all week.  Fever on Tues and Wed finally broke last night.  Lungs still full of junk, but no more bone and muscle aches. Nose is clear too.

I love Medinait, but don't like the 'hang over' the next day.  So, I add a wee Whisky with it.  Then the hang over is worth it!

Kidding, I think.  The house lass sorted me properly all week.  I did me best to behave during the day, and when she returned home, she took good care of me, and perhaps the reason I am feeling better now.  Loads of her chicken soup and she even read my current book to me on Tuesday night in bed as I was too weak to hold it.

I know.... awwwww....  :P

I wish you a speedy recovery Rob!

I try not to overmedicate with fever.   Bath and tea and sleep.  The fever is good a fighting infection.

me too. unless a fever is dangerously high, I trust my body to know what it's doing with that and let it run its course.

I'm just knocking on wood over here. Cannot remember the last time I had a fever. I haven't, however, forgotten what it's like.

Did you have flu shots?

You guys take care and get well.

Wishing you all well! Take as much time as possible to rest. I made the mistake of going back to work too soon, after two weeks off, and caught another virus, which knocked me down another week later. Drink lots of water and teas. MediNait says use it only max. three nights as it can be hard on your liver. Hang in there. If your fever returns or your lungs are rattling, go to a dr. flu can turn very serious quickly. Best to check in with a dr. to be on the safe side.

My liver is made of steel!

I do wish everyone in this a speedy recovery.  I'm still coughing up unmentionables...  like a key I lost a few years back!

Unless you took the whole bottle the 14% alcohol isn't going to do much. The other ingredients on the other hand...

Are you qualified to make a statement like that? Are you sure we can't sue you for saying that?

Oh Metall, you know you're the only person who can't make such medical suggestions. The rest of us can say whatever we want. I even mentioned a flu shot.

*sarcasm off*

I'm certainly not qualified! This may be a case for 'Dr. House'!

I've used this! It's important to take it with some food or that aspirin part will make your stomach sore. A pharmacist asked if I had asthma the last time I bought a box of it, no, I don't, but apparently it's not good for people prone to asthma. Good to know!

yeah, Aspirin Complex, man, that's the stuff. If that doesn't take the edge off then you REALLY have the flu.

Never on an empty stomach. And I think if you operate heavy machines or even try and walk in a straight line after a cup of that, think twice...!

When I first moved to Frankfurt I got hit by the Frankfurt Flu a couple of years in a row, and hit BAD.

This year I don't know how, but I didn't get any symptoms beyond a Main Malaise and general vague sense of dread about the economy.

I'll just put this here. Time to get your flu jab. I'll be getting mine next week.

Not necessary to comment if you are a non-believer. Just don't get it.
