Netherlands took gold, silver and bronze in 3000 m women's speedskating. In Sotschi we took 23 out of 36 possible medals in speedskating, beating Germany in the medal standings. That will not happen again.

There was a discussion whether people from exotic countries should be able to participate in winter olympics. Here is Boccalandro from Venezuela in 2002. She is a bit overweight and got separated from her sled:

Nice to see those volunteers hopping over the side to see if she was ok! ;)

Yep - German speedskating was kind of rough though the announcers kept trying to hype them.

The look on Wellinger's face when he won the ski jumping was priceless (and his comment about getting a Weißbeer was pretty good too)

PS- Netherlands only has 33 athletes in Pyeongchang. Germany has 153 and USA a record 244. We only send people who have a chance for a medal.

Dear Russians, if you ever want to invade Germany, best come during the winter olympics, because half the army will be away trying to get medals

This was the official US commentary by Katie Couric when the Netherlands entered the stadium during the opening ceremony:

http://www.businessinsider.de/katie-couric-mocked-for-trying-to-explain-why-the-dutch-dominate-speed-skating-2018-2?r=US&IR=T

"It is probably not a news flash to tell you the Dutch are really, really good at speed skating. All but five of the 110 medals they've won have been on the speed skating oval. Now, 'Why are they so good?' you may be asking yourselves. Because skating is an important mode of transportation in a city like Amsterdam which sits at sea level. As you all know, it has lots of canals that can freeze in the winters. So, for as long as those canals have existed, the Dutch have skated on them to get from place to place, to race each other, and also to have fun."

Such a fake news :D

Exactly, one Dutchie was mocking her: "Oh yeah, we do this all the time! First we skate, and then we change into our clogs before we start the working day at the local windmill. Didn't you know that?"
