New Year Resolutions

Just the first one, learn an instrument, is something that would keep you busy for the next 3 or 4 years.   Except if by "learn an instrument" you just want to bust Twinkle Twinkle Little Start with bad timing.

My main resolution is to play music with the kids as much as possible, and maybe have 2 or 3 rock songs ready by the end of the year with them.

Learned the guitar nearly 40 years ago and still play 4-5 times per week.  Rather easy to learn, I felt, but I was young at the time.  But it is a great thing to learn and keep learning.  If interested in learning the guitar, I highly recommend the Guitar Tricks website.  I've had a subscription for the past 7 years and to be honest, it has changed the way I play.  It is a grand site for beginners and... well, those who have played for years.  Joe Satriani I am not!

Well, it depends what you want to do with the guitar.  I play a couple of instruments and guitar is my main instrument and I would say it is a pretty difficult instrument to learn, specially because there is no instant gratification for the first months.  That's why they say around 90% of beginners quit.   If you just want to strum open chords and sing along you can get proficient probably in around 6 months if you put some hard work.

Right then,

So here come the new resolutions for the upcoming year. Of course they never last but are fun to make. Here are mine:

1. Learn an instrument - maybe keyboard, tried harmonica but the dog howled!

2. Learn basic drawing and sketching - been on my list for years

3. Finally write a decent web site and/or Android app in Java/HTML/CSS. Any takers?

4. Finish off a carpentry project I have had lying about for ages now.

5. Expand my kitchen abilities

7. Train my dog better (I seem to have lost her instruction manual).

Now most likely none of these will reach Jan 2nd, but they are fun to make, all the same. What are yours?

Have you actually acheived any of these?

The pursuit of happiness most days, if not every day of 2020.

My rather teutonic recommendation: Make a list...

Franklan you are not allowed to use that word on TT. It is non-PC. And Spider, I wonder why you are interested. And we are all unique, right?

How about, try to be more positive on TT for a NYR?

And yeah, I recommend you put Opti on block.

I've resolved to fly my own sailpane more often that I fly as PAX in airliners this year (I have 8 flights with EW/LH booked).

I only had 8 flights with my own last year - mind you, 2 were over 500 kms which means > 6 hours each.

Sail more than 2019...

Traverse the Panama canal.

Managed 7200 nm last year with only two trips:

a pacific run from Hawaii and another (my 3rd) Atlantic crossing from south France to Caribbean.
