Hiking tour from Duisburg to the Christmas market in Moers

5 posts in this topic

Also in December the weather might be suitable for a hiking tour. And it is the time of the Christmas markets. So if on 3rd December the sun is shining or if at least it’s not raining we could combine both by a hiking tour from Töppersee Duisburg ( Rumeln station ) to the Christmas market in Moers. The part of the group which is going there by train will meet at 10 a.m. in front of Sparda Bank at the East side exit of Duisburg main station ( exit towards Neudorf and Duissern ). From there, we will take the train to Duisburg-Rumeln station ( direction of Moers; the train ride takes about 10 minutes. Who prefers to go by car may of course do so and wait for those coming by train near Rumeln station. From there we will walk along quiet streets, starting from the Northern part of the lake Töppersee, then towards the direction of Schwafheim waters at least through the parks and sporting areas of Moers to the city centre. There we can either go to a café or visit the Christmas market. The distance between Rumeln station and the centre of Moers is about 11 km ( only 800 m are along a cycling path close to a busy road ), then about 1 km back to the station. We will take the train from Moers back to Duisburg main station or wherever you started from.

When we do a hiking tour in Bavaria, we talk about elevation gain. Alpes and stuff. What's the story in NRW?

Of course we don't have mountains, but a lot of forest, rivers, lakes and beautiful nature, too, which we enjoy during our hiking tours.

Unfortunately the organiser cancelled the tour because of the bad weather forecast. I will inform you when our group is planning the next tour.
