Watch UK TV on German TV

I have a subscription to IPVanish which no longer works with iPlayer. Frustrating because it's a very fast VPN.

Other things like All4 work fine with it, it's just iPlayer that doesn't play ball.

Quite surprised that the Beeb thought that VPN users were such a big problem, their previous solution would have kept most people out

isn't this subject becoming a bit long winded? Technology is moving forward.

I have watched English TV with the minimum of fuss and with good to near perfect HD quality since going the Smartdns route over VPN for some years now.

If you have a need to watch all the UK channels, sports included along with subscription for films and more then go the route and sign up with @SpiderPig , but the very basics are there at very little cost.

An  Amazon firestick for example once registered, with a smartdns supplier like Getflix or Overplay will cost approx €4.00 per month, will give you all the British terrestrial channels and more as long as your TV has a HDMi connection point for the firestick.

If you want the channels that you regularly view on your Android device, phone or tablet for example, then download an app from Google Play Store called, 'appstofire', and you can add all your favourite apps that aren't available through the Amazon store.

I have no issues watching Live TV, as things like TV Player work fine for me - it's just using iPlayer apps or website for catchup that is the issue with my current VPN provider, which is a shame because the VPN is quick enough to work fine with Xbox live and game streaming from Nvidia's CUDA cloud to my Nvidia Shield.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I was looking for the UK FTV channels.  :(

Unfortunately the Internet connection is quite poor in my house - only 16.000 DSL...

So watching BBC, ITV etc. over the internet is quite frustrating, as the stream get stuck quite often.

If you're looking for the free to air channels then the TVplayer app on the Amazon Firestick will give you most.

I don't think the 16mbit/s is your problem, up until July this year I was also using up to 16mbit/s at my summer house and seldom had a problem, in some cases I was only getting 4-5mbit/s  and was still okay but on average was around 8mbit/s.

What device are you using to receive the UK channels? Is it setup wirelessly or hard wired using a LAN cable? If you're using a VPN that could also be a problem and slowing things down depending on the provider.

Thanks Sir Percy B,

I watch UK Tv (wireless) on my laptop on https://tvcatchup.com/

Sometimes it works alright, but especially in the evening can be a nightmare - when everyone's online.

Didn't use my firestick since FilmOn stopped their free service. But I'll give it another go with TVplayer now :-)

Cheers

Maybe you missed my post in the other thread, but this site is for all UK channels, much like tvcatchup.com. Just register any email address (doesn't have to be real) and you can start watching - even has EPG.

Unfortunately what was formally 100% free on this site is mostly now only available with a subscription (BBC1, ITV1 etc etc.) and not a cheap one I think at that. Given that the legality of such a service may well be in doubt I would think very carefully before paying for a long subscription, it might not be there next week.

Oooh, that is steep. I agree with you keith subscribing at those prices seems risky.

Better to subscribe to a VPN or smart DNS and use a free UK based service IMO.

Just tried re-registering with a different email address and I get 100% free again but obviously this is time limited unless you want to regularly re sign up.;)

yes you are right! I hadn't visited in a while and now the channels are blocked. Oh well, too good to be true, right? at least if your vpn goes down, this can be a temporary back up

Very wise. I had used an IPTV service in the past, and they got shut down.

I'm currently subscribed to F1TV - it doesn't let me watch live in English, but I get replays soon after (with Sky's commentary). If really want to watch live then commentary is in French or German, but unlike RTL no ad breaks.

I know I've said it in my previous posts and I also said the subject is becoming a bit long winded so here's the best and cheapest option that I think is currently available if you do not have a smart TV like Samsung.

This option with some additional apps will give you most if not all of the UK's Free to Air Channels live and with Catchup, you don't need super fast internet connection.

1) TV with a HDMi port

2) Subscription with a SmartDNS provider costing no more than €5.00 per month.  I use Getflix and have used Overplay and Unotelly in the past.

3) Amazon Firestick for HD tv's which is currently on offer for €29.99. You do not need to buy a firestick from the UK, the DE one will change automatically once you change your account details to the UK on the initial setup.

4) UK Amazon account with either a UK credit card or credit on your account by means of an E-Gift voucher.

Once you're setup you can download all the necessary apps from the Amazon Store like the BBC iplayer, ITV player, All 4, Demand 5 and the TVplayer app with the free to air channels like Dave etc.

Disclaimer; I am not promoting or selling anything just tired of the same old subject appearing in it's different formats.

Or since Makel Is in Frankfurt,  they could get all the Freesat stuff on a 60cm dish as long as they have line of sight to the satellite...

I can get pretty much all that stuff via TV player and TV catchup :P

BUT... and this goes for anyone who longs for UK TV, with perhaps the exception of BBC iPlayer and NowTV (if either work for you) the quality of catchup apps or live streaming websites is not a patch on the quality of a good DVB-S feed - I fully agree with you @SpiderPig that a dish is the best solution :-)

F1TV's picture quality is very good, both the live streams and catchup are on another level to what I used to get from Channel4's All4, but of course I had to pay Chase Carey a couple of handfuls of hard earned euros for the privilege

Get a VPN... Telekom are being cunz and reshaping loads of unfamilliar streams...   A VPN will encrypt everything so Telekom cant snoop around so easily..

Anybody else use this service ?

Pay by the month or year (prices from  5€ -10€ a month depending on how you pay) All UK free view channels with a 7 day catch-up service and EPG.

HD quality streams.

I'm quite happy with it.

Hey ant3269 - how do you watch tvmucho? via an IPTV box or do you have a smart TV?

No posts on this topic since 2018? Really? I used to use Overplay's SmartDNS service, and tried out a couple of others since they got bought out, but it's just too convoluted setting up a router to get this to work...
