Help me replace these light tubes

6 posts in this topic

Hi everyone,

I need to replace 2 lightbulbs (tubes) - the long ones from either side of a bathroom mirror.

They're 1 meter long, 230 volt, 120 watt.

Is there a hardware place near Hauptwache that has a wide selection?

I assume these things are very common as they seem to be fitted as standard in my apartment and most likely every apartment in our block.

Update!

the contacts on these tubes are on the sides not on the ends!

the tubes clip sideways onto sockets to the left and right of the mirror at the contacts, hanging vertically.

maybe this configuration is not available in the typical highstreet hardware stores?

That doesn't sound right. Do you mean 20 W? If so, you're probably talking about a "Neonröhre" which you'll find in any hardware shop. However, you might just as well need a new starter only ( that little device which kick starts the tube). There are youtube videos showing his to change them.

Those are the numbers from the bulbs themselves! Unless 120 W doesn't stand for 120 Watts!

The models are

OSRAM LINESTRA C548

Radium Ralina u (v?) 7

You are unlikely to find any bricks and mortar store in Germany which still stocks identical lighting tubes to those you are describing because they are rated as belonging to the worst energy efficiency class possible.

Quote

Energy efficiency class: G • Socket: S14s • Rated power: 120W • Nominal voltage: 230V • Luminous flux: 840lm • Light colour: warm white (2700K) • Colour reproduction: Ra100 • Shape: line • Version: matte • Outer bulb: T30 • Lifetime: 1000h • start time: 0s • Diameter: 30mm • Length: 1000mm

I suspect they are probably no longer in production. Geizhals couldn't, although Idealo did find one online specialist lighting supplier in Hamburg who can send them to you for a mere €199,90 each ! + €4,90 shipping !

You'd be far more likely to find an equivalent (dimmable) LED replacement costing from between ca. €11 and €50 in any large Baumarkt (OBI, TOOM, Hagenbau), or REAL or a well sorted department store.

I suggest you take a look through all of these various offers on Amazon so that you know what you should be looking, or asking, for. That will also give you a chance to compare brands, performance stats and rep values.

btw, light 'bulbs' are a different species altogether. The name 'bulb' refers to their shape and was originally used due to the resemblance of early examples to plant bulbs.

The Germans usually use the word Birne (= pear) aso because of its shape.
