Starting my life in Germany, with a German passport - need tips!

4 posts in this topic

Hi everyone,

My name is Eric and I'm new in the forum. I own a German citizenship and passport because of my family, so I'm coming back to my roots! I've been studying and working for the past 3 years in UK and now I decided to settle in Berlin for personal reasons and start my own business in Sound Design for film, TV and games. Since most of the work was back in UK, I'm starting from scratch here. Is there a way of getting any financial aid or loans from the government till I get some more clients and get up on my feet? I've already done the anmeldung, I registered in the VHS to learn Deutsch (level A1.2) and also opened a bank account. Any tips for this?

Thanks to all!

You might want to check with your local Arbeitsamt.  Wish I could give more advise.    Welcome to Germany and Viel Erfolg!

Since you need to pay for health insurance (there is no NHS), you have to register at Agentur für Arbeit anyway. They will cover at least this for you + give some pocket money.
