Arbeitszeugnis translator?

5 posts in this topic

Hi Folks,

just got what seems like a surprisingly good reference letter from my last employer, surprising because we didn't part on particularly friendly terms.  I understand though that there is a special secret language that is written between the lines in Arbeitszeugnisse, so that employers can communicate what they really thought about the employee to other employers.  Has anyone come across an Arbeitszeugnis translator on the internet that works similarly to Google translate?  It can be one that goes from Arbeitszeugnisdeutsch to normal German.

Thanks!

I am a professional translator, including of such references.

If you need your reference translated into English, feel free to PM me.

thanks for the offer @onemark, but I don't need the reference translated into English.  I was looking for a way to decipher the secret code written into the reference document by my previous employer to any potential employers in the future.  Like the links that StephS provided show, certain sentences and adjectives convey hidden meanings.  An apparently good reference can actually mean pretty terrible things, depending on how it is written.
