Brexit: The fallout

Just a thought that's been buzzing around in my head...

Prior to the referendum the leave campaign said that there would be 40 trade deals in place after exiting the EU...

Now they are proposing to leave with no deals, but that wasn't an option before the vote took place, surely that is a case for a second referendum, with the no deal option added to their list of lies...

Just received a letter from the local Ausländeramt...

Quote
The United Kingdom may withdraw from the European Union at the end of 12 April 2019 ("No Deal" scenario) or 22 May 2019 (withdrawal under a Withdrawal Agreement)

It is still unclear whether there is an unregulated exit (so-called "no deal" scenario). For both possible case variants, the Federal Government is preparing legal transitional provisions. At present, we have no further information on the concrete status of the legislative procedure.

Nevertheless, we would like to inform you today about possible effects in the area of residence law.

If the withdrawal agreement is still in place, after the departure on 22 May 2019, a transitional phase of just under two years would apply until 31 December 2020. During this time, the UK continues to be treated as an EU Member State. The EU's eligibility rules continue to apply during this period.

An unregulated Brexit ("no-deal" scenario), which means leaving the country without a resignation agreement, means that British nationals and their family members are no longer entitled to vested benefits as of April 13, 2019 and generally require a residence permit for another stay in Germany.

The Federal Republic of Germany intends to issue a decree allowing British nationals and their family members to continue to live and work in Germany without a residence permit for a transitional period of three months. For further stay, British nationals must apply for a residence permit by the end of this transitional period at the latest. Please note that the application is only possible after the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

In the case of an unregulated Brexit on 12.04.2019, the Landratsamt will set up a citizen telephone in the week 15.04 - 18.04.2019. The employees will check your personal data (name, first name, date of birth, passport number and validity, expiration date and issuing authority). You will then receive a temporary certificate (preliminary proof of the right of residence) along with an application form. Please return this form, filled out in full, with details of the reason for the stay to the immigration office.

The phone numbers will be announced early on our homepage as well as in the local press.

Further information can be found on the homepage of the district, which also refers to the websites of the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for construction and homeland and the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for sports and integration

Simon & Garfunkel re-record Scarborough Fair about Brexit

Quote

‘Tell her to split all of Ireland in two – parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme
Without stopping Irishmen passing through – then she’ll be a true love of mine

Tell her that leave means she’s Trump’s for the pickin’ – parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme
And he wants to feed her chlorine-filled chicken – then she’ll be a true love of mine’

And more on the same theme...

Any Brits planning on doing any international travel between now and April 12th?

Wife & I just got back from Brexitland today.  Went over on the 3rd.  actually we should have returned yesterday but due

to total still-stand within security at Manchester airport we missed our plane & had to buy new tickets, find accommodation etc.

Super weather though whilst in the Lake District & at the Tramway Museum in Crich.

Separately, it emerged that travellers from the UK would no longer be allowed to bring pork pies, bacon sandwiches or cheddar cheese into the EU in the event of a no-deal Brexit. If the UK crashes out of the bloc, individuals will no longer be allowed to bring meat, cheese or any other animal-based food into the EU, although commercial imports will be allowed subject to checks and controls.

We bought back a lump of Red Leicester cheese so thats OK...

Swiss court orders historic referendum re-run

Quote

The result of a nationwide referendum has been overturned for the first time in modern Switzerland's history.

The poll, held in February 2016, asked the country's voters whether married couples and co-habiting partners should pay the same tax.

Voters rejected the proposal, with 50.8% against and 49.2% in favour.

But the supreme court has now voided the result on the grounds that voters were not given full information, and the vote must be re-run.

The information provided to the electorate was "incomplete" and therefore "violated the freedom of the vote", the court ruled.
