Recommended movers in Munich

8 posts in this topic

I need to move this December, and am looking for recommendations for companies/movers in Munich people have actually *used*. :) So please only movers you've worked with yourself.

(I know about myhammer etc., but would prefer firsthand reports. I don't trust anonymous online reviews)

I can pack my own boxes, but I need them to take down the furniture, transport within Munich, set up again, transport the boxes over.

I don't need them to pack/unpack boxes. ;)

Help!

Do you speak a bit of German? I have been using http://www.loewenumzuege.de/ just last month. They "demontage" and "montage" my furnitures and setup them up again. (plus around 50-60 boxes) I have called about 4-5 of different moving companies and they are the cheapest. The move was very smooth and stress free. Basically you can give them a call, they will come and have a look then they will give you a quotation.

Good luck!

OK, Löwenumzüge came and gave me a surprisingly llooww  estimate (80 boxes, taking down setting up furniture, self packing)

I your experience, did they stick to the estimate, or did costs overrun?

I will compare with another moving company (Eisenbach, they said 100 boxes) and report back. :)

We used a company called AAA, I think, some years ago and they were great. Not sure if they're still around.

My father in law has used Tip Top twice and they were also good.

If you pack your own boxes, the contents won't be insured if I remember correctly. I would suggest just getting an estimate on them doing the packing so you can decide if self-packing is worth the hassle. That's what I've always done. They bring the boxes and materials and are done in no time. It may take you some days to pack. Up to you. Tip Top even took their boxes back after they were unpacked.

I used Smoovr.de - a site that made it nice and easy, and all communication in English.

You can send pics/vids of what you want to move, and then they connect you with a company, sort out No Parking Zones, extra services, etc.

Moving team (I cant remember exact name of company) was great - showed up on time, packed quickly, disassembled beds and large wardrobe with no problem.  Movers didnt speak much English, but communication was with Smoovr via WhatsApp, so didnt really much German other than pointing 'hier bitte' and 'danke!

Back in 2016, I went with http://www.eisenbach-umzug.de , and they were very good! I can't say enough positive things about them.

Their estimate of 100 boxes and one day was spot on, they offered extra insurance at a very moderate price, and they were the only company that could move me the day before Christmas.

I packed myself with some friends because I took the opportunity to quickly throw out junk (not recommended if you tend to be a bit of a hoarder, good plan if you can let go fast).

They organized the no parking signs, turned up at 6.30 on the dot on moving day, nicely wrapped and cushioned everything, and made me repack some too heavy pieces into extra boxes they had brought. They even knew how to take down some exotic old fragile furniture and set it up again, and worked with me when doorways were too small for some of the pieces to get through.

All sorts of furniture, cabinets etc. was attached to the walls, shelving set up etc.

They then went back, filled the truck with all of my trash and broken stuff, stored it over the Christmas holidays and then took it to the dump. I paid a very moderate addon fee for the trash removal because it was way more than I had told them. (8 cubic meters *cough* ;) )

We were fast enough to get lunch and still were done by 8 pm in spite of all the extra hassle.

They picked up the rented boxes after about two months (they usually want them faster, but will give an extension if asked, or do partial pickups.)

They also do international moves, as well as clearing out / decluttering  entire houses. (I asked for a 200 square meter property that was stuffed with junk - they estimate one or two days of work using a commercial tip for about 6,000 Euros. I'll report back if they get the job.)

If I were OP, I would post same question, and I think this is good question to ask.

But just realized, and surprised no regulars are coming and complaining about OP starting useless redundant thread for something that he can easily googled out.

Then I realize that OP is one of the regulars.  :)

Good luck with your moving.

From my experience with moving, I would always go with formal registered company so that if there is anything damaged, you can always get compensation. Some private movers may offer good price, but it is always spend a bit more (cough out a bit more  :) ) to be safer.

After my recent experience I certainly know who NOT to recommend, but then they're in Landshut not Munich.
