Last-minute Charter flights? Germany - Canary Islands

11 posts in this topic

Are there any charter flight companies in Germany that offer discounted last-minute tickets to sunny destinations? I'm looking mostly at the Canary Islands, but also interested in Thailand. In Sweden you can get some cheap flights, so wondering if similar possibilities exist from Germany.

Ltur.com comes to mind. Or the last minute agencies at Frankfurt airport terminal.

Be aware that German holiday airline TUIfly is cancelling flights after many employees called in sick. Tomorrow (6 Oct) all TUIfly flights are cancelled.

Other airlines could be affected as passengers are re-booked and/or those already on holiday struggle to get home.

TUIFly's employees appear to be using sick leave as a form of industrial action in protest at restructuring plans so the effects could go on beyond tomorrow.

Which is outrageous.

There tends to be a lot of offers for southern Europe at this time of year, as it is now off peak.  But, it picks up a bit during the school holidays!  For Thailand I think you will have more difficulty finding such offers, but Thailand in general can anyway be good value.

A lot of online travel sites offer last minute details, so look around on them. As well as Ltur mentioned above, then http://www.lastminute.de/ specialise in this.

You will probably also find a lot of travel agents on your high street would have offers, but you need to go in and ask.

You can also look at https://www.urlaubspiraten.de/

They have all kinds of good travel deals, including a lot of late offers.

Are you sure they are at every airport? I'm not aware of one at Munich ( haven't really looked for them though). At Frankfurt I was told you could even get stand-by flights.

Lastminute, Ltur, and all the other budget last minute places are in our tiny little Baden-Baden airport, so I'm sure they must be somewhere around Munich as well.

Be very careful booking with 3rd party sites like the above, you are not necessarily getting cheap or even good deals.

Example; 12 October 2016 Berlin to Gran Canaria (economy class).

lastminute.de                     €100.80 with Condor

urlaubspiraten.de               €100.00  with Condor

condor.de                           €89.99

If the traveler didn't have any luggage then the flight direct with condor would be €70.00, an option not normally available through 3rd party sites.

@Windup Bird use a website like skyscanner first to source and find available flights and prices and use their links.

3rd party sites will normally have some kind of markup on the original price as in the example above.

Note: It's quite likely that if anyone looks at the 3rd party sites later in the day, their prices may well be even higher, just by coincidence refreshing my web browser I see that both 3rd party sites had increased their prices by €7.80 and €4.00 respectively.

Great, thanks for the tips everyone! Yes, I understand it's best to go directly through company providing the trip. Just looking for a compiler that will at least lead me to the primary websites. But, that is useful to know they have agencies at the airports where flights can be purchased. I will do some more digging. Still not sure where I potentially would be flying from, so it's a bit up in the air, but it looks like there are some good deals.
