Registration of new members - waiting time?

50 posts in this topic

Hi,

When a new member registers here, they get a message that their membership is waiting for approval even after they've confirmed their email address.  How long does this take?  I don't recall this when I first registered 4 years ago.

I have a new member that's been waiting for over 2 days.

Then I guess the membership has been probably rejected. Or the mods are all vacationing in Palma de Mallorca. :P

Seems to be a bug in the system I've recommended TT to a few people and they said they either never got the “confirm your email” or afterwards there membership never got approved.

My confirmation email (definitely automated) was in my spam folder. They should check that. Then it took 2 days for the approval, but it was a weekend I think. Maybe the company are closed on weekends.

I had the same problem some years go when trying to sign up to the English Forum Switzerland , (TTs sister site), after it was discussed in a topic started by our glorious founder @EditorBob.

I looked for the website admins e-mail addy in their Impressum (which you can find here somewhere behind the 'About' or 'More>>' buttons in the upper blue border) and contacted them directly.

They said their spambot had rejected my attempt to register coz my ISP was one which was used by multiple email addresses. I responded that that was inevitable coz I was using mobile internet access via E+ (same applies for 0² Tchibo, AldiTalk, Lidl, et al,) so the admin told me to try again and they threw the switch. Took 10 minutes.

ETA: What @Cammiede said (first) then try the above.

Registration is not guaranteed. There's a combination of automation and human oversight which guards against spam and other misuse.

Registrations from Cameroon and Vietnam, for example, are more likely to be blocked than registrations from within the EU. Throwaway email addresses are also less trustworthy.

GMX and Web.de have chosen not to deliver emails from toytowngermany.com. They have us on a silent filter. The emails don't even go to spam. So registrations from those addresses can never be confirmed. GMX and web.de are two of the only large email providers in the world to not offer 2FA, so you shouldn't be using them anyway.

@Tim Hortons Man pull the other one. Your duplicate accounts were blocked because duplicate accounts are not allowed, especially if they look commercial in nature.

In case anyone else is reading and can't register or post, mail me at: eb@toytowngermany.com

Plural. As in more than one.

@Editor Bob   Thanks signing off now, it's time to say good bye.. Been a member since the days of Britboard and even back then TT had a reputation for being ultra catty and I'm getting older and have no more desire to deal with this anymore. I also closed off one thread about pensions.

PS sent a thank you to PandaMunich.

Goodbye Mr Horton, all the best.

It’s Mr. Horton’s man, not Mr. Horton himself.

Aw, now we're never going to find out everything you need to know about property in Germany. Mostly because he won't be able to copypaste all the info from Toytown any more.

Oh, the humanity. 4.5/10 on the flounce scale.

Just for info: Something must have changed, because I got instant access once I confirmed my email address.

I was expecting to just stay in limbo waiting for admin approval.

Either I was doing something wrong, or they have blocked the usage of any username starting with jaycool. 😂

Lucky you! I can'e usually remember my email address! It gets seriois when I try to remember my phone number. And don't get me started on my website address.

Eyesight is one major problem right now. Memory of unimportant stuff is a close second!
