He also thought that no real action would be taken until the crisis was over, and that I would simply have to wait until Kurzarbeit was over to get citizenship. I then started wondering whether Kurzarbeit is a KO condition for citizenship (it is not listed as one), but my understanding now is that the non-sustainable nature of my Kurzarbeit income is the problem. I believe my income is sufficient, but I will not be allowed citizenship because my income is in part based on non-permanent Kurzarbeit income. I saw some application forms in internet and saw that some of them clearly mentioned Kurzarbeit as Änderung der persönlichen Verhältnis. Therefore I emailed the Staatsangehörigkeitsbehörde about my Kurzarbeit. But I didn't get any response from them. I will let you know if I get any response back. I found some more details (page 14): https://www.jurati.de/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/LU-Sicherung2020.pdf but still doesn't mention anything about the Kurzarbeit condition.
Posted 15 May 2020 My situation was about timing. They asked for info through March 31 to be delivered in mid-April. Kurzarbeit didn't start until April and I had no documentation even showing what the Kurzarbeit level would be, so mentioning that Kurzarbeit would be coming would not be helpful. Now a bit more time is passed, but my lawyer still said that there was no rush, since nothing is happening regarding application processing and that I would likely have to wait until Kurzarbeit period passed to get citizenship. I think he may have miscalculated my income level, since I think I still qualify for citizenship without the Kurzarbeit subsidy, but who knows how these things are handled. I would have to submit an explanation from my accountant of how I still would be earning enough even without Kurzarbeit money, and we are just waiting for any sort of response from the naturalization authority. Naturalization is something that people work towards for a decade or more, and this whole situation with coronavirus throwing a wrench in the works really sucks. I am kind of questioning whether this whole painful and expensive process was worth it, especially with naturalization being snatched away in the last instant. It is about creating some sort of certainty in life, but maybe it is best just to live with uncertainty.

Posted 18 Jul 2020 To Folks in Hamburg, Was wondering if someone picked up naturalization urkunde from the Amt offlate. Was wondering if you could shed some light on how long does it take at the office to pick up the certificate and is it considered safe due to the virus situation? Any process run-throughs for urkunde pick-up appreciated.

I received a letter a few days previously saying that my application for German citizenship had been accepted and due to Corona there weren't any presentation ceremonies and people needed to collect the certificate and this was only possible with an appointment. I rang up and scheduled an appointment and they sent an email confirming the date/time. I needed to either print out the confirmation or show the email confirmation on my mobile to the security before I could enter the offices to pick up the certificate and was only allowed into the building 10 minutes before the appointment. The whole process of paying the rest of the fee (€64) and signing a couple of documents before being given the certificate took about 10 minutes. When making the appointment to pick up the certificate I also asked whether I could apply for the ausweis and passport at the same time. This was done with a different person just after I picked up the certificate. The time taken to pick up the certificate, apply and pay for the ausweis/passport took about 20 minutes or so. As for safety with the virus, due to people only being able to enter the building with a confirmed appointment there were very few people in the building and masks needed to be worn. The ausweis/passport took 2 weeks as I received an email on the 17th July saying that they were ready to collect so I'll make an appointment and pick those up later this week or next. One important thing, at least in Cologne, is to make sure you have proof of the appointment to show the security at the door. While I was waiting for my appointment there were several people who were turned away and weren't let in as they didn't have any proof that they had a appointment so you either need print out the confirmation email of the appointment date/time or been able to show the email on your mobile to the security people.

Took no longer than 15 minutes to collect and sign for it.

All my requierments legally are met e.g., B1, job etc. Just dont want to show up with lackluster impression of poor german. and risk being asked to do B1 again.
Posted 27 Jul 2020 If you have dealt with everything up to now in German, then picking up the certificate will be the easy bit. There really isn't much to it. Also since the certificate has been issued already, I don't think they are going to make you re-do the B1 exam :). Just make your appointment and pick it up. Congratulations and welcome to Germany.
Posted 27 Jul 2020 Don't worry about your German when you pick up the certificate. You already have DE citizenship as you will probably see when you pick up the certificate it will already have been stamped with a date when citizenship would have been issued already. When I picked mine up at the beginning of the month, the certificate has the date of the 24th March and the issued date was the date that I picked it up (3rd July). When you pick up the certificate you will need to pay the additional €64 and read and sign a couple of documents and that's it so there's no need to worry if your German isn't fluent. It was good enough for the B1 exam whenever you passed it and that is all that matters.

Would you like to share your experience regarding the whole process, from handing in the application until receiving the letter to pick up the citizenship certificate in a relevant thread? If there is anything particular with regards to the application in Hamburg, it would also be interesting for me.
Posted 3 Aug 2020 Mine is in Berlin. I was told that my application is successful and was asked to come to collect it. If I understand correctly, what I get is assurance of naturalization (“Einbürgerungszusicherung”) only, or do I get the citizenship certificate directly? If former, what would be the process to get the citizenship? For ausweis and passport, I guess I have to apply separately at the Bürgeramt?

If you applied for citizenship then this is what you should be getting if the application was successful. It looks like the ID/Passports are done at the Bürgeramt offices in Berlin so once you have picked up your citizenship certificate you will need to book an appointment to apply for these.

BTW don't wait till you collect it to book an appointment for your Ausweis / Pass, you should do that now online as it will take long enough as it is. Search across the whole of Berlin, it doesn't have to be your local Bürgeramt.

So this is not a Brexit case. My daughter-in-law is from the Philippines and she also got notification of Einbürgerungszusicherung (before isssue of the naturalisation certificate) to send to the Philippine embassy. They needed it as proof that her application for German citizenship had been approved before they could renounce her Philippine citizenship. Once proof that her Philippine citizenship was renounced and sent to the German authorities they issued her naturalisation certificate for her to collect at the Einbürgerungsamt.
