Getting a schufa when based in another country

6 posts in this topic

I´m moving back to Berlin and have started to look for a new apartment. But my schufa is old, so I need to get a new one.

The problem is that I´m based in my home country, and there´s no field in the registration form for "country" on the schufa website. I won´t start my new job until middle April, and that is also when I intend to go back to Berlin

Does anyone know if I need to be registered and located in Berlin to obtain a schufa?

Grateful for any help!

Kim

I doubt they will provide one and it would anyway be meaningless because schufa does not have access to information outside of germany.  Just get a new report when you arrive and if you need one before then use what you have.  It isnt ideal but I dont see a better alternative.

As far as I understand there is no equivalent in sweden but you should arrange a letter from your current landlord saying you dont owe them anything.

Thank you for your answer zwiebelfisch!

I have a house, so I´m my own landlord. I guess I could write a letter from myself:)

I don´t think that I´ll get an apartment if I don´t have a good schufa. In that case I need to go to Berlin next week and get one.

Do you know if I need to be registered in Berlin to get a schufa?

Thanks again.

If you look around this site, you'll find plenty of queries about house-hunting without a Schufa - since every new arrival from abroad has the same problem. Most of us manage to find a decent place to live though. Just offer landlords plenty of evidence of your solvency; bank statements, employment contracts etc.

I'm wondering if someone can help me...  I am a US citizen, lived in Germany approx. 2004-2008, and am now back in the US. I am trying to uncover some information about some bank accounts I had while living in Germany. Does anyone know if it possible to obtain a SCHUFA BonitätsAuskunft, if I don't live in Germany any longer, no longer have a valid passport, and obviously my Meldebescheinung (sp? registration?) is well-past expired? Can this still be done, and if so, how? Thank you in advance!
