Will an analog (landline) German phone work in the UK?

3 posts in this topic

I'm thinking of buying this (German) hybrid analog / voip phone for a friend in the UK who'd like to use both his existing (analogue) landline as well as a voip service provider. I'm not concerned about the VoIP bit since both the phone and my friend's router use standard Ethernet ports.

What I'm concerned about is the analogue connection. There's an RJ11 socket on the phone. The phone comes with a cable having an RJ11 connector at one end and a male TAE connector at the other. Is it enough to just replace this cable with one that has a BT-Plug connector at one end and an RJ-11 connector at the other?

Are there design differences like voltage or pin order that might interfere with proper functioning?

This has apparently come up before and there are differences:  http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/topic/61326-using-a-uk-landline-telephone-in-germany/

I dont personally know anyone who did this germany/uk but I do some people who had dutch telephones that they couldnt get to work in the uk.  I think the bottom line is that it might work and if it doesnt you can get an adapter.  But personally I would just buy in the uk.

Is it the same as this?  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigaset-Cordless-Answering-Machine-Silencing/dp/B00F07U4R2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446677690&sr=8-1&keywords=Gigaset+C430A

Edit, no it isnt the same, but this is  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigaset-C430-A-GO-schwarz/dp/B00TG2BHBO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446677890&sr=8-1&keywords=Gigaset+C430A+go
