21 posts in this topic

I'm at work and in a hurry, sorry, so I hope this goes quick:

Does anyone know what NVQ Level2 means in German or what it's like?

Thanx

Hannah

Scousekraut's hit the nail on the head - lot's of people who ought to know better and most of those who don't know what they are, tend to regard vocational qualifications as a poor second in terms quality.

The German Berufsschule tend to get tarred with the same brush (perhaps with more justification) and perhaps Germans tend to equate NVQs with Berufsschule - with unfortunate consequences.

So you are saying because his parents couldnt afford to pay the study fee and he had to stop going to college and reached only Level2, makes him not really qualified for a decent job, hmmm

I'm not saying anything of the sort, but it's sad fact of life, that that's the way a lot of people (not only in Germany) think - or rather don't!

In the UK they give those taking the Famous NVQ`s in IT (Information Technology) a mentor or assesor.

They are monitored and hand in their course work. They never get failed. So the argument is that they are mentored into an acceptable level to be given the NVQ.

So now you are the Manager about to employ someone. You have 3 applicants who all proudly hand over their NVQ certificates

2 took 3 years of mentoring whilst 1 whistled through it. But hey all have the same NVQ level.

Hence "Not Very Qualified"

OK no more joking... But still got no time for the NVQ system.

Too much equalling out of talent amongst those less talented. Are you a dummy.. Well the NVQ would not confirm that either way.

And that is a shame because some very intelleigent people reach the same levels as others who are not in the same league.

Not my fault we where all made differenmt and then governed by people who try to make us all equal. !

Would trade any NVQ to employ somebody who has the right inclination and not a peice of paper.

Signed Scousekraut NVQ at anything ! BA Tothickfor University.

well the ones who live in Germany since a longer time or had the same problem, might see what I was trying to find out. Here you get asked "was hast Du für einen Schulabschluß" und "was hast Du gelernt", "was ist Dein Beruf" - though you maybe don't even work in this kind of job anymore and the Schulabschluß doesnt matter at all anymore.

I was just interested what to answer if ppl ask ME about his education :P

If people ask you about his education you could try replying that he has a British one. Unless they understand the range of qualifications one can get in UK they are unlikely to enquire further. You never know they may even judge him for the person he is rather than the letters he has after his name. :o

thanx Rebecca, my family and friends know that hes a smartass :D

If it's not a international firm they dont have any clue about the british system. Even at the arbeitsamt they asked what NVQ means.

Still waiting for the answer what GNVQ means by the way

He has a job but he keeps trying to find a different one. But when he talks to people and they ask him about his qualifications then he says it in english and they mostly are like "HÄH"

I guess "my education is british" would not help much neither :D
