The current weather in Hamburg & Surrounds

More snow in the night (which has melted except in the gullys of some rooftops).

Alternate sunshine, hailstorms & now just plain rain.  This has been a crap flying season so far!

Drizzle all morning.  Another non-flying day :(

We have a saying: What follows two days of rain?   Monday!

Sunday is may be a bit better.

Thick fog early this morning.  Currently rumblings of thunder from the direction of Hamburg.

Wetterradar is showing a small shower area over Hamburg with a larger area behind it.  Easterly airstream.

20 minutes later: steady rain - not torrential (yet).

After several hours of sunshine another hefty thunderstorm passed right over us.  Shut down all routers & PCs for the duration (we lost a router some years back in a storm).

Amt für Fluchtlinge? - They must be very p...ed off with our brand of weather.  When they all came last year it was warm & sunny!

We glider pilots are seeing the season slipping away with any decent weather.

The days are getting a bit shorter which makes the BIG flights (from here >500 kms) very unlikely now.  Basically we had nuffin this year.

I was talking on the phone to the BGA (British Gliding Association) administration & he was saying all UK competitions in June were washed out.

Must have been no better over here.

Constant rain all day - and cold.  Current status:

Its been a poor year for gliding here although if one happened to be in the right location in Germany on the right day BIG flights were possible.  Just not where I was.

Our club held its Sommerlager on an airfield near Celle for the last week July / first week August.  Whilst flying (basic training) was possible on most days there was just one day for cross country flying - I only just got home after a climb away from low-level (about 400m altitude) just West of the VW factoy at Wolfsburg.  One colleague landed out.

Hopefully next year is better.

Yesterday - at last - halfways-decent gliding weather (flew a 381km task around Hamburg area).

Today started foggy, then sunny & warm, then clouded over & now mostly cloudy with some blue gaps.  Dry!
