At King Charles's coronation in May, the anointing oil will be vegan for the first time and no longer contain ambergris, obtained from whales. Not surprising really, he used to be their Prince,,, ;)

Quote

A super secret oil used in the coronation of Kings and Queens of England for hundreds of years will be animal-free for King Charles III's ceremony this year.

The special oil is used to mark a cross on the King's forehead (which is called anointing) during the ceremony when he is crowned King and head of the Church of England.

The oil was made at a site that is holy to Christians, called the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

Ambergris is harvested from the sea after being crapped out by sperm whales?   But the civet oil that was used in the annointing oil is harvested by massaging the the anal glands of civets, which is an altogether more hands- on, less animal friendly product.  Mostly produced from farmed civets in Africa.

Ambergris = whale vomit. Not crap.

I wonder if a legal loophole will be found to say that because he was not annointed properly, the recipe having changed, he will not actually be a proper king.

That is disputed.  But sure, out of the insides of a sperm whale, one way or the other!
