Our cat licking the cream from a freshly opened milk-bottle from my fingers - completely before I was able to transfer it from my cup to her plate...

Probably not the place for such a debate but imagine you replace the words "offended by everything" with "disabled" (or any other group that could be labelled as a minority). There may be deep seated, psychologically (and, consequentially, physically) damaging reasons why some people take offence to some things. We should all attempt to cater to these effects just like we cater to the effects of disabilities (or the effects of anything that could arise from belonging to a minority group).

A very strange comparison.

Not IMO.  I liken @theGman’s comparison to simply trying to develop more empathy for others, a noble thought that makes me 😄.

I am all for empathy.  But trying to make conditions better for the disabled, compared to, say, making jokes about a teacher who decides to wear ZZZ prosthetic breasts to school.  Hmm.

Is it OK to install ramps so that a person with cerebral palsy can have easier access to a building?

Is it OK to call a person with cerebral palsy a retard?

Is it OK to call a person of colour a n***er?

Is it OK to call a trans woman a man?

Is it OK to call a *insert minority here* an *insert insult here*?

I'm just trying to work out what the meme is referring to and where on my scale above we should stop?

Well, the word "man" is not a slur word.  "Nigger" is.

Is calling a trans woman a man a slur?

Is calling a trans woman a tranny a slur?

I'm still trying to find out where on the scale you think I should stop. It's very confusing.

...interesting...

I am not offended by "everything" (the definition of "everything" here isn't really clear to me anyways)
I am seriously offended by certain actions, opinions, people, situations, things...

I do not "cater" to other people's feelings/opinions (or perceived animosities) - but I definitely try to avoid being "offensive", unless I feel that I am being personally attacked by someone on purpose.

As for the determination of what is considered offensive in any specific situation, that depends on the circumstances.
Where, when, with whom ... are we talking?

If I'd call my brother "fettes Arschloch" we would both be laughing our asses of, probably slightly drunk already, no offense intended and none taken.
If I'd call my boss "fettes Arschloch", that would not be funny - and could turn into a resume generating event.

Watching your language and avoiding offensive behavior is simply being a decent human being. It's catering to civilization, if you want to use the word "cater" in that context.

This is a very good example of how the 99% who are not offended by everything minimize offenses and think that almos nothing is offensive.   In reality there is a problem in both sides.
