I personally knew a man that would give up his time for free, for the benefit of our local town. He was honoured.

However , the vast majority of people being recognised, are just doing what they're paid to do.

I watched a similar street interview a couple of years ago where some young British women were asked about their favourite city. One said " Barcelona " and then her friends discussed where it was. The Barcelona fan was adamant. " It's in France. I've been there."

Back to 1971 at a bus stop on a rainy evening in Bonn. I was a young man and it was raining and the bus hadn't arrived. Can't remember how it started but a much older man than me, a German, asked me where I was from.
