Returning Telekom modem by return package

11 posts in this topic

Does anyone know what Telekom will charge me if we do not return our modem? I have cancelled the contract, but I only did my Abmeldung a week before we are leaving Germany, and I am not sure if the modem return package will arrive to me before it is too late. Does anyone know if I can just get my own box and send it back, and if so, to what address? Or does anyone know how much Telekom will charge me if I don't return the modem? Thanks.

Are you sure you need to return it to them? You normally only need to do this if you rented it from them (a rental charge will have been specifically shown on each monthly bill). In some cases, depending on what package and offer you took at the time of the original contract it's yours to keep.

Yeah, I didn't realize it when we signed up, but when I called to confirm they received my cancellation, they told me I had to return my modem. Never again will I rent equipment.

Yes, it is supposed to be on its way to me. I faxed the cancellation on Thursday, and on Friday they confirmed that they had it. The conversation was in German, and I thought they said I would receive the package on Wednesday (today) but I did not. So maybe it will arrive tomorrow, and there will be no problem. It is also possible though that I misunderstood the details of the German, and perhaps she said it would be mailed on Wednesday. We leave Saturday, so I need to have it in time to visit the post office on Friday.

Did you receive a letter with a return label? They don't actually send boxes anymore AFAIK.

I haven't received anything yet. I did think they were sending a box. We have the original one though. This is encouraging actually, as it sounds like I should be able to send it back on my own. The only difference would be that I need to pay postage, which I can certainly live with. I'm guessing I can just send it to the address the kundigung was to go to as well and give my account number, order number, etc. Worth a shot anyway.

I think they do not even pay the postage for canceled device contracts anymore either. The label is basically just to make it easy for them to log your modem back into their system. Or put differently: without the label the chance is higher that it doesn't get booked thus potentially leading to future headaches.

Thanks. It's funny because the person I spoke with last week told me I would receive a postage paid box. Regardless, I got them to email me a copy of the letter they sent, so I can go ahead and send it back in the original box. If anyone else is every wondering, if it is not received back for some reason, I was told they will charge the value of a used modem, so probably not any outrageous amount.

They're generally pretty good about it.

I had to exchange a defective (leased) Telekom router recently - they sent me one in a padded plastic box sealed with pull ties on both sides with just the router (no accessories), and I put my defective router in the same box, sealed it with the extra pull ties they provided in the box, and dropped it off at my local post office agency with the postage-paid sticker they also provided.

Assuming they get it to you on time, you won't have any problems at all.

As part of my moving out of my apartment I have to also send my modem back to KabelBW, they don't supply a box but sent a returns slip fully completed and if I send by DHL the postage is free.
