Exchange student: searching for apartment

3 posts in this topic

Hi!

We're two girls from Sweden, we're (or we are about to become to be more precise) exchange student in Nürnberg. So planned exchange begins in the first of September and ends in february. Now we will need a place to stay, and i've tried using google to look for apartments but im not getting anywhere really, if anyone had any tips on websites i would appreciate this immensely! Now many have been referred to ads, but the problem for us is that our knowledge of the german language is.. very lacking. It's quite frankly, nonexsistant. So that is a big problem when looking through some ads in the paper.

This post probably does not make much sense, but my thoughts are all over the place and i don't even know where to begin. But first and foremost i guess Im wondering if anyone had any tips on websites or something where you can brows through ads? Any tips on what areas to focus on, the university is in central nürnberg but i really dont mind commuting, lets say, half an hour.

Other tips that would be helpful is greatly appreciated bacause i feel like im fumbling in the dark right now.

Thank you.

Does the university offer any help with housing? Student housing, dorms etc.? That will be much the cheapest, and the easiest option. Competition for small student apartments is intense, and since you're not staying for the entire student year, i.e. until summer, you're starting at a disadvantage already from the point of view of a prospective landlord.

The university does help, but they have outright told us that there is no guarantees and that we should look for housing ourselves. So thats what we're trying to do! thanks for the help i guess, If anyone else has a tip or two please keep them coming!
