English speakers in Kaufbeuren or surrounds!

7 posts in this topic

Hi all! I hope I am posting this in the right place. I may be moving to Kaufbeuren in August and was wondering whether there are any English speakers nearby. I won't have a car so can only use the train (or buses?) to get around to begin with. Or my feet, I guess! Also, does anyone know of any groups (sports, music, crafts etc.) that I could get involved with whilst I am there? I don't want to be lonely!

Thank you :)

Hi paperrchain,

I'm an american (USA) living in Kaufbeuren. Did you make the move?

I've been here in KF for a few years and have a pretty good sense of what's available.

The biggest draw for sports fans is the hockey team, they are very good and compete in the second League (like minors in US). The local government just approved funding for building a new stadium. The new stadium won't be built for a couple years but because of the victory I imagine this will be a huge year for the team.

Music... there are a few clubs that have live bands, from what I gather mostly blues and classic rock. But there is also a lot of chamber music and small classical events to be found. Depends on what you like. For bigger scene, shows, concerts, possibilities you might want to look into Kempten. The Big Box is the main venue for touring bands in the region. There is a place that has musicals. I'm sure orchestra music and local rock bands will be much easier to find there also. Then, of course, there's Munich which has everything to be expected of a relatively large, international city anywhere. And is only an hour by train.

There are a plethora of arts and crafts people here. Today ( actually yesterday), there was a market in Innenstadt KF (city center) with lots of craft booths. There are about 5 or 6 craft markets per year in Innenstadt and a Christmas market at Fünf Knopf Turm on the hill next to Aktienbrauerei. Also, every town and dorf in the Allgäu has arts and crafts markets throughout the year, many of which are a short drive or train ride from here. I'm an artist so I know a lot of the craft folks here as well.

Feel free to get in touch and we can meet up, I can show you around a bit, etc.

Best of luck to you!

Hi! I'm not in Kaufbeuren, but in Kempten which isn't too far away. I have a fairly large group of native-English speaking friends that I`ve met over the past 13 years living here.

Send me a message if you'd like.

Hey, have you moved to Kaufbeuren? I've been living in Kaufbeuren for about a year now and have been in Germany for 4 years and a few months. I've had a lot of trouble meeting people and making friends here in Germany. I do however, have wife and 2 year old so. I'm 28 years old and am just a normal guy, blue collar American from Indiana. If you would like to chat then send a message my way and I'll get back to ya.

Hi, are any of you still in Kaufbeuren? I'm working in Germaringen and staying in a hotel at the mo in KB while looking for a flat. I'm quite often out and about mooching around.
