Pet taxes in Nuremberg

3 posts in this topic

Hello,

What are the taxes for owning a house pet (dog, cat, bird, etc.) in Nuremberg?

I know that in Munich there are taxes for having dogs.

Thank you.

Welcome to Toytown Matusalem

Within 14 days of the aquisition of any dog over the age of 4 months the keeper must register that ownership and provide their German bank account details in order that the annual Hundesteuer (due annually on Feb 1st) can be deducted from their account. The owner will be issued a special dog tag (Hundesteuermark) which must remain attached to the dog's collar whenever it is outdoors.

The annual amount of Hundesteuer charged in Nuremberg is currently 132 Euros p.a. except for dogs of breeds which are classified as Kampfhunde (fighting dogs) in which cases it is 1056 Euros per dog per annum.

There are presently 5 breeds so classified in Bavaria with an additional 14 breeds listed as being suspected fighting dogs. For the basic 5 breeds there is no way around the Kampfhundsteuer although if the owner can obtain (the expensive) certification from a specialist vet and dog tester then they may be granted an exception (allowing them to pay the standard Hundesteuer) in the case of the 14 suspected breeds.

There are no taxes charged for keeping birds or cats as pets, although commercial breeders may be subjected to a variety of business-related taxes.
