The Easter Market is held in the Abbey, and this is one of the oldest and best preserved Abbeys in Hessen. It was built by Charlemagnes biographer, Einhard, who also built the Basilica next to the Abbey. The garden behind the Abbey is very beautiful, and if the weather holds out, should be lovely by spring.

If this is your first Easter Market, you will be in for a treat. These are marvelous works of art, and many of the 55 artists will be demonstrating their craft. Price of the eggs run from about 10 € up to 400 € for the very finest and largest. Other hand crafts will also be for sale, textiles, glass, basketry, tin, ceramics, and wood.

We expect to be back in Frankfurt by 17:15 on both dates.

Easter Market in Kloster Eberbach

Saturday 15 March

Time: 10:30

Cost: 30 €

Price includes your train fare for the day, entry into the Easter Market and a tour of the Cloister grounds.

Meeting Point: Directly in front of the Tourist Info inside the Hauptbahnhof. This is right next to the main front doors. Jo will have a sign that says Frankfurt on Foot.

Kloster Eberbach is a stunning, ancient cloister, located in the Rhein-gau. Begun in the early 1100's by the Cistercian monks, it soon became famous for its' excellent red wine. The setting may be familiar to you, as much of the movie, "Name of the Rose" was filmed here. We have time on this day for you to go inside the Basilica and the rest of the cloister that isn't being used for the Egg Show. The entrance fee is 6 euro, but is well worth it.

This Easter Egg show will have approximately 70 artisans presenting their eggs and other hand-made items. Many of them work during the show so you can see how they create these lovely items.

We expect to be back in Frankfurt by either 18:00 or 19:00 depending on the group consensus.
