Bumpstocks. That is it. I think it is something that turns a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic weapon. The question here being why does anyone need a semi-automatic weapon?

Because they have a right to own one, and they might want to kill lots of people... Just sayin'

Trump calls for instituting the death penalty for hate crimes

Quote

Trump said during his White House statement that he's "directing the Department of Justice to propose legislation ensuring that those who commit hate crimes and mass murders face the death penalty."

He added that capital punishment in these cases should be "delivered quickly, decisively, and without years of needless delay."

More context: Federal authorities are treating the El Paso mass shooting as a case of domestic terrorism, the US Attorney for the Western District of Texas said Sunday.

The Justice Department is also "seriously considering" bringing federal hate crime and federal firearm charges, which carry a possible death penalty, US Attorney John Bash said Sunday in a news conference.

The death penalty just makes martyrs...

The shooter in El Paso was anti immigrants, so a lot of good checking up on immigrants would have done...

Quote

Police say a racist, anti-immigrant document they believe was written by the 21-year-old white male suspect has a "nexus to a potential hate crime." The four-page document posted online espouses white nationalist and racist views. It rails against immigrants and Hispanics, blaming immigrants and first-generation Americans for taking away jobs and for the blending of cultures in the US.

Trump will probably award him a medal, posthumously...

Spontaneous Trump has squeezed an anti-immigrant slant out of even this tragedy.

We cannot let those killed in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, die in vain. Likewise for those so seriously wounded. We can never forget them, and those many who came before them. Republicans and Democrats must come together and get strong background checks, perhaps marrying...
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1158330512341164032

...this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform. We must have something good, if not GREAT, come out of these two tragic events!
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1158330513951735809

By contrast, Teleprompter Trump has made a politically correct robotic announcement.
US must condemn white supremacy

If he can't come up with condemnation of white supremacy off his own bat, it's not surprising that people should doubt his sincerity and wonder about his true opinions.

no, of course they had NO WAY of knowing the ohio shooter should maybe have never been allowed to legally purchase a gun

I mean, he had only been suspended from school twice, once for having a "rape list" of female classmates he wanted to assault, and once for a "kill list" of people he wanted dead.  Nah...just youthful indiscretion, right?  Kids!!!

"The discovery of the hit list early in 2012 sparked a police investigation, and roughly one-third of Bellbrook students skipped school out of fear, according to an article in the Dayton Daily News.

It's not clear what became of that investigation. Chief Michael Brown in Sugarcreek Township, which has jurisdiction over the Bellbrook school, did not return calls Sunday about whether his agency investigated the hit list."

I mean...just thinking about it...and just putting this in perspective.  My brother wanted to buy a copy of the anarchist cookbook when he was about 13.  He had to first find a bookstore willing to order it for him, then he had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, then he had to wait for a couple of months to actually get it.  And as a result of all this he was put on a freaking FBI watchlist.

over a single book.

times do change, don't they?

at least I learned how to make diy napalm out of all that :) :/ :(

eta:  no, my brother does not own, nor has he ever owned, any guns.  There's a limit to everything

White supremacist shootings.  What else do you expect when racist rhetoric is state sponsored.

Hate to interrupt your rage binge but only the El Paso shooter was a white supremacist.  The Ohio shooter was apparently a leftist:  Ohio gunman described himself as pro-Satan 'leftist' who supported Elizabeth Warren

Quote

The Ohio gunman described himself on social media as a pro-Satan “leftist” who wanted Joe Biden’s generation to die off, hated President Trump and law enforcement, and hoped to vote for Sen. Elizabeth Warren for president.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, rifle-wielding Connor Betts rampaged through a Dayton entertainment district, killing his sister and eight other people and leaving dozens of others wounded before police killed him.

“I want socialism, and i’ll not wait for the idiots to finally come round to understanding,” he wrote in one tweet, according to Heavy.com.

The breaking-news outlet said it had found Betts‘ Twitter page (handle @iamthespookster) and verified that the account belonged to the gunman “through multiple verification factors, including a matching tattoo on both a page selfie and prominent news outlets’ pictures of Connor Betts; several family linkages to the page; similar photos, including of him and the family dog, on the page and family members’ verified accounts; and references to college and growing up in Ohio and Dayton.”

The Twitter account painted a picture of a left-wing anarchist and discontent, very far from the anti-immigration manifesto posted by Saturday’s El Paso gunman.

“Vote blue for gods sake,” he wrote last Nov. 2. On the day of the senator’s death, Betts wrote “F—k John McCain.”

Though he had a fascination for guns, Betts also was a fan of gun control and blamed Republicans for school shootings.

“This is America: Guns on every corner, guns in every house, no freedom but that to kill,” he wrote in December, and on the day of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting, he tweeted at Sen. Rob Portman: “hey rob. How much did they pay you to look the other way? 17 kids are dead. If not now, when?”

In reference to the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, he wrote “you can’t kill 50+ people and injure 600(!) In 10 minutes with cigarettes my dude.”

Politically, Betts was on the far left. His pinned Top Tweet was a retweet of someone else’s claim that “Millennials have a message for the Joe Biden generation: hurry up and die.”

When another Twitter user posted a picture of Ms. Warren and 2020 Democratic presidential rival

I am generally against the death penalty but whenever somebody like this or his El Paso counterpart guns down dozens of innocent people (especially if there are children being shot) I have trouble defending my position.

The Far Left and the Far Right are the same> hatred. I have met all such types in my life. What they have in common (apart from hatred ) is they see only their point of view and others can die, get tortured in the name of the " Cause".

In 2017...

President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

Yet immediately after the last 2 mass shootings this...

..

Quote

President Donald Trump has condemned hatred and white supremacy in a public address following mass shootings that left 31 dead in Texas and Ohio.

He called for mental health gun control reforms, the death penalty for those who commit mass murder and more bi-partisan co-operation over gun laws.

"Mental illness and hate pull the trigger, not the gun," Mr Trump said, speaking at the White House on Monday.

Doesn't that make him guilty of facilitating mass murder?

Apparently one of the gunmen had ammo to kill 250, it was just the police that shot him within the first minute of him opening up that stopped him from doing this.

Study Shows Leading Cause Of Gun Violence Is Those You Disagree With Politically

https://babylonbee.com/news/study-shows-leading-cause-of-gun-violence-is-your-political-opponent

"These results are pretty conclusive," said Porkenheimer. "Your political opponents are the real problem here. Americans have a lot of work to do, and that work starts with calling those you disagree with politically murderers. If enough of us can manage to do that, just maybe we'll see a shift in these horrible attacks."

If the reason behind the mass shootings is mental health issues, maybe try healthcare.

Regarding NRA spending.    $15 million in the 2018 cycle.

If it was simply about money, any multi-billionaire, e.g. Mike Bloomberg or Bill Gates could easily throw money via an anti-gun lobby and outspend the NRA without even a scratch on their enormous wealth.

The idea that the NRA has its death grip on US politicians because of its massive lobbying budget is clearly a joke.   The numbers simply do not support this ridiculous thesis.
