Astra 2F and 2E Now 2G - New satellites arrive

Hello...

I thought, I might add my reception experience here in Osthessen, more precisely, Fulda as well...

I am using a Triax 110cm dish an have, unless there is strong rain, good reception of all BBC channels (including HD), Channel 4 & 5, etc...

So I would say, that any dish over 110cms will do here in Fulda - perhaps, a 120cm is even better but if you live in a flat, you will find it difficult to get permission to have it installed...

Happy viewing,

Der Graf

It all seems to have gone quiet on the Munich front...

I'm in Trudering (approx 10km south east of Munich city centre). I currently have 1m dish on my south-east facing open balcony. By 'open' I mean there's nothing blocking the view above or to the sides. I have 80% signal and quality with the current 1m dish, but am bored with Judge Judy and Sky News. Is there anybody nearby, getting a good signal with 125cm? (for what it's worth, I have a Humax Freesat box).

Cheers, Mme Cholet.

Bav sat said wait and see .. I have waited .. I have waited

Whats the NEWS

A SAT shop in Munich is saying 1.80 m !!!

But thats for 24/7 TV

Other people are getting 18 hours TV,( but blank in the evenings, when you want to watch it !!) on a 125cm

It depends what you want .... I think enough time has passed and nobody has a good soloution for sat TV in Munich any more :)

If you go down to Saturn in PEP, you can buy a Chromecast ( which coupled with an Andriod phone ) will allow you to watch all the channels again on your TV for 35 euro, 24/7 , note you need an average internet connection as well! - note you would be using FILMON, so the qaulity will be bad.

try lookin the other thread about IPTV for all sorts of information.

I'm living in Schwabing-West, Munich and have a 125cm dish on the roof of the apartment block. I get about 80% signal strength and quality.

I can't pick up BBC, RTÉ (Irish) + lots of other interesting TV channels.

I do get Sky channels, TV3 (Irish), Comedy channel, news channels and documentary channels.

The reception for those channels I can watch is always reliable. Am badly missing BBC and RTÉ though.

To pick up SKY in europe you only need a bowler hat and a walking stick waved vaguely in the right direction. Oh for the good old days.

I gave up trying to receive the channels from my 90cm dish on my balcony but I did find a way to get all the main channels by using an IOS APP called TV guide.

If you have an Apple TV box you can then 'mirror' the App and watch the channels on your TV.

Things to note:

- You can only download the App from the UK App store with an Apple ID registered as if you are from the UK.

- Picture and sound quality are not great

- Only works with the IOS App - the Android App seems to be IP location blocked

IOS App: https://itunes.apple.com/app/tvguide.co.uk-tv-guide/id317212648?mt=8

Website: http://www.tvguide.co.uk/

How to download Apps from other stores: http://www.cultofmac.com/43040/get-a-u-s-itunes-account-anywhere-in-the-world-how-to/

Also found a Google Map showing recommended 2F dish sizes for Germany:

Hope this helps...

All channels are currently coming in strong and clear again including channel 5. On a 1.0m standard dish outside Munich.

We moved to Trudering a shortwhile ago and would like to install a satellite dish on our rooftop (slant roof, 2nd floor). I was reading through the previous posts and it seems even with 1.2m or 1.5m dish there were issues receiving proper reception of all channels.

Could somebody let me know if you are able to receive the english channels without any issues and if so, what dish size do you use/recommend?

If you want traditional English channels such as BBC, ITV, C4, C5 then you can forget it. A 1.5m dish goes somewhere to receiving them, but you'll likely lose them in the evening at at certain times of the month/year/season

If you subscribe to English Sky then you get most channels including movies and sport, but none of the above terrestrial content. A 90cm dish is more than suitable for Sky.

If you have a decent (>6Mb/s) internet connection better (and cheaper) to go down the internet route for UK content.

Whereabouts outside Munich? North, East, South or West?

Depending on how long you want it for, the Satellite dish is still cheaper, as just for the UK free to air stuff, you are on 100 Euro a year with the IPTV (at least ), unless you are happy with Filmon. Over several years the dish installation will probably be cheaper

Considering the poster seems to want a roof installation, a dish, receiver (and professional) installation isn't going to come in under 300€ and could be a lot more, so at best good for 3 years of internet TV, notwithstanding that it's a moot point, as he's unlikely to be able to accommodate the dish size he needs for consistent reception of FTA content in Trudering. If he goes down the Sky route, and buys on the grey market, then the costs will be considerably more.
