Booyah. I guess I'll see you back here in another 2 years dj.

Yes.  I can use you as a reminder, rather than set one in my calendar! :)

If you are looking for the cheapest DSL deals besides the usual stuff from check24 et al. I would always take a look at remoters.de and obocom.de. They often have exceptional deals with lots of cashback. (Though I do not recommend 24 months contracts ...)

I will look to change my DSL in 3 months

Does your notice period end in 3 months or does the minimum term? I would always let the new ISP handle the switchover to avoid trouble with loss of service or double payment. So I would make the new deal about 1 months before the end of the notice period to give the new ISP enough time to handle things.

I meant that in ~3 months I need to give 3 months notice.  And yes, we normally get the new provider to do this and have learnt not to leave it to the last minute!

Although the last twice we have still had loss of service for several days because the messed up the switch over! (Seems to be a problem going to/from O2).

Following on from eileenro's post, I can confirm that for accessing UK TV an Amazon Fire stick does the job beautifully, I setup my 2nd Generation model with Overplay's SmartDNS in conjunction with No-IP (automatic IP updating), once I'd done that, I switched our Amazon app store to the UK and grabbed the necessary on-demand and live TV apps (All4, BBC iPlayer, TVPlayer etc.) About 40 Euros for the stick, and then 5€ a month for Overplay. Well worth it. (Stay away from Kodi if you're worried about the legality of streaming copyrighted content)

Edit: I'm happy to give anyone who wants to try this tips on getting it setup. Send me a DM.

Did overplay die? Redirects to strongvpn now. Does this solution work in 2021? I didn't follow why you needed a DDNS supplier like No-IP. I heard they stopped allowing the use of VPNs for bypassing geo-blocking. Do any still work for the UK channels?

There are a number of vpn providers that will allow you to play UK TV over the internet from the channels websites outside of the UK, no idea if they still work with Amazon Fire stick though!

Any Fire stick users still out there?

Yes, ceased to operate beginning 2021. Problem was that the Netflix people made it impossible to get around their geo-limitations by a DNS approach.

And selling an unlocking service that doesn't unlock Netflix is like selling a "Best of Procol Harum"-CD that doesn't have "a whiter shade of pale" on it...

I do not know any Smart-DNS service that is still in business. This season is over...

I actually gave up using Overplay a while ago, I now use DNS Flex (they're in Canada), who also include some handy parental control features in their plan. You need DDNS because without it, every time you wanted to watch something you would need to log in to your smart DNS portal and manually update the service to sync with which ever new public IP address your router had generated (unless your ISP has given you a static IP address).

Sorry to semi necro this thread but thought it the best place to put my question.

Had a Firestick on my TV for about 18 months and turned it on the other day and all I get is the Amazon logo (in B&W,not with the usual bit of yellow on it)

Have done the usual turning it on and off again but does nothing, can´t get into any menus to clear cache etc.

Anyone any ideas on how to fix it or has it shuffled off this mortal coil and I need to get a new one?

You could try this, but then you would have to set it up again - just as if you had bought a new one ...

Reset Your Fire TV Device to Factory Settings

A factory reset of your device removes all downloaded content including in-app purchases.

GUID-CB2C90D3-7602-4531-894B-FBF419202C1 An all-new Fire TV experience is available! Learn more here: What is the All-New Fire TV Experience?

Important: All account information and downloaded content is deleted during a factory reset.

To factory reset your Fire TV device using your remote:

  1. If needed, safely eject expandable storage.
  2. Press and hold BackGUID-BDEEB5AC-4B30-4E19-A848-BA8D6F499F2 and right side of the navigation circleGUID-F869890F-4A59-4EB9-A623-EF302CA52A4 together for 10 seconds.
  3. On the TV screen, choose to continue or cancel the factory reset. If you don't choose, the device resets automatically after several more seconds.

@yesterday Thaks for that but it wouldn´t reset just stayed on the Amazon logo. Amazon recommends to leave it for 30 mins as it should boot up after those 30 mins although that didn´t work.

Anyway borrowed a mates today to test mine and it seems that (excuse the technical terms) the bit between the power supply and the bit that plugs into the TV is knackered so either got to buy a new bit if possible or a new stick.
