Squash partner wanted in Munich

25 posts in this topic

Hi all

I am looking for a squash partner in Munich. I have been playing for quite some years, but had no time at all to play last year. And I miss it very much! If anyone is interested, please drop me a line.

Cheers,

Petra

Hi, just got here to munich and also looking to play squash regularly. Have you found a club or place to play. I could do mornings and evenings after 6pm. Or anytime on the weekends.

Hi both,

I'm moving to Munich this coming weekend and have been wondering if I would get to play squash at all over there!

I've been playing for about two years and played several times a week, although this has dropped off considerably.

If it turns out we're around the same level I'd love to play regularly. I'd be free some evenings during the week from about half six or seven and some weekends.

Hi all

I have been playing in SPORTS4You, in Drygalski-Allee 41. There are also some squash centers/courts on Winzererstr in Schwabing, in Nymphenburg and somewhere in Moosach.

We could either see whether we find a time to all meet up and mix'n'match, or we make individual dates.

For me weekends probably work better than during the week.

Happy Friday!

Petra

A few of us have been looking at the courts in Nyphenburg... but our lack of German does somewhat hinder us. One guy who PM'd me said it is €15/half hour... which seems steep when I guess most people want to play an hour (if you include a knock around at the start etc...), but hey, can't put a price on fun and fitness :)

I'm up for having a game next weekend if you would like?

Welcome to Munich! ;) Yes, indeed prices are pretty steep in all of them, I think. Sports4You has €11/half hour for weekends, €13/half hour weekday nights after 6 pm. And student discount.

Definetely 1 hour with warm-up!

I could do Saturday 1 pm-ish or Sunday any time from 11 am. Let me know and I can call them to book.

I can't do Saturday and on Sunday i'm playing Alex88. We booked Park Club Nymphenburg for €22/hour.

You around after work next week? (6.30pm onwards?).

EDIT: But the weekend after 15th/16th would be fine :)

Hi all,

I've just moved to Munich to and would love to play some squash as well. Is your mix and match thing happening?

I've researched Nymphenburg a bit before and you can pay €50 for the year. It seems like a lot perhaps but it's pretty good when you consider what some gyms charge per month, and then you only pay €2 per court for an hour and sauna etc included. (if I got the German right that is!)

If mix and match not happening, Petra I'd love to play at a weekend if you still want another game.

I played for a season few years ago but have only played a bit since.

Or if anyone else is interested, I'm looking for a girl to play squash with

I'm not a girl... well maybe I am, but since I last checked i'm not... but...

I've been playing with a chap from Toytown for the last 3 weeks at Nymphenburger. It's a really, really nice place. There is a bar usually with live sports facing onto 8 glass backed squash courts. So you can sit with a pint and watch the games. Only problem is when you have some people smacking the glass wall, it makes an almighty bang and you may spill your beer. They also were doing really good smelling food and are open late (we were playing last night)

The courts are in good nick, court 1 is a slightly crap concrete backed one. It's also an extension of the main building so I found it colder and harder to get the ball moving about.

Oh, if you think €50 is a lot... well, without a membership they are €26/hour (€22/hour for student), so a membership is maybe a better idea (I didn't get one yet...).

Finally... they have nice changing facilities, a mixed sauna so that you can awkwardly sit naked with your newly found internet squash buddy. I haven't quite mustered the strength to do that yet. Rumour has it that there is a small pool, but didn't see it (may well be a rumour).

It's really easy to get to... 15 minutes from Hauptbahhof on the 17 tram. You can also get the 16 tram to Romanplatz and then catch the bus to Dall' Armistrasse.

Hope that helps.

Hi guys

sorry for my late reply, totally swamped with work :-(

The Sunday mix'n'match is happening and I've been down there the last 3 Sundays to play. You'd need to sign up for it in advance, so Silas knows how many people there will be and how many courts to book. You can sign up here: http://www.toytowngermany.com/xtra/events/squash/index.html.

I'd love to try out Nymphenburg as well, the thought of sitting there with a pint trying not to have it spill is utterly intriguing :-)

Alex, will you be playing there in the next 2 weeks, maybe I can join? I will be on holidays for 3 weeks starting March 14 -- HOORAY!!!

Happy Sunday!

Petra

Hi all!

Is this thread still active? And is there someone still looking for a squash partner? I'd like to start playing this sport again but have no one to play with.

For me, evenings work the best and weekends are fine as well..

Am looking forward to a few replies!! :)

Cheers,

Akshat.

Hi,

I would like to start with the squash. No experience at all but I was a good badminton competitor and not that bad tennis player so I suppose it should not be a problem.

How is it going for total beginner? Are there some people who are also beginners or I should at least look for couple of sessions with a coach or so?

Thanks.

Danko

There is a regular group meeting on Sundays. Search for squash and you will find the topic and signup if interested.
