Gary Glitter found guilty, three-year sentence

British former rock star Gary Glitter has been jailed for three years after a Vietnamese court found him guilty of sexually abusing two young girls.

The jury found that Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had molested the girls, aged 11 and 12, at his home in the resort town of Vung Tau, southern Vietnam.

 

The 61-year-old, who claimed he was innocent, said the "unbelievable" verdict was part of a "conspiracy".

 

He will be deported after he has served his sentence, possibly back to the UK.

 

Compensation

 

He may be considered for release after serving a third of his jail term, which includes the four months he has been held in custody since his arrest.

 

In addition to the prison sentence, Glitter has been ordered to pay 5m Vietnamese dong (£180/$315) to his victims' families.

While the jail time may not serve much of a deterrent, that fine is sure to stop him from ever doing something like that again.

He's expected to be deported back to Britain after his sentence, so I reckon the'll keep him for another 8 months, let him out, ship him back where he'll be re-arrested in the UK.

he'll be up for parole after a year's term which means around Xmas cuz he's been on remand for 4 months.

he will be deported and the UK police are building a case against him at present. hopefully he'll be locked up again straight away.

The court, in its verdict, cited graphic testimony from the girls that Glitter had fondled and molested them multiple times in his rented home and in nearby hotels.

 

One girl said he had ejaculated on her stomach, while the other girl said he had her urinate on him. The details drew gasps from the crowd.

What a cruddy decision!! In my experience (19 years as a prison officer) paedophiles are the most prolific repeat offenders, usually claiming that it is a "sickness". My recommendation is that he receives a medicinal dose of Kalshnikov!

In the UK many prisoners are released early, serving half the sentence or less is common, like Boris Becker did.

 

Otherwise the jails would be even fuller.

One hopes nobody would advocate the death sentence.

 

Perhaps the likes of Mr Gadd could be kept in a remote secure colony like Alcatraz. There are some suitable uninhabited Isles off of Scotland.
