Gauging interest in Ballroom/latin lessons + Yoga

2 posts in this topic

Hi! I am new to this forum. I am hoping to move from the US to the Nurenberg/Erlangen area in January to be with my boyfriend of 2 years. I am a professional Ballroom and Latin dance instructor and a certified Yoga instructor. I have been teaching for 12 years in the US and would love to continue to teach in Germany.

I would love to teach expats here in the area private or group lessons either in dance or yoga. I teach any form of partner dancing: Salsa, Swing, ChaCha, Rumba, Mambo, Waltz, FoxTrot, Tango, Hustle, Etc. In yoga I teach Family Yoga, kids yoga, Vinyasa Flow and Power Yoga.

I am trying to get a feel before moving if there is any desire from people to take classes. Would anyone on this forum be interested in getting a class together or take private lessons in either dance or yoga?

I would love to hear from you! :)

Thanks so much

Hi Karin,

from the non-response to your question I conclude that it might be difficult to make a living in Nuremberg just by giving dance classes to expats ;-)

So I decided to give you some insight to the wide field of dancing in Germany especially the Nuremberg area ...

I do not know, what the situation for ballroom/latin dance classes in the US exactly is like, but in Germany, there are three dance domains which could be interesting for you (sorry for my imperfect english, you know, I am german).

One domain comprises the dancing schools. I would say, almost every german visits such a dancing school once in his life, sometimes as a teenager (maybe pressed by his parents), sometimes as an adult for all kinds of reasons. What I want to say: The attendees of such dancing schools are quite ordinary german people and I am sorry to say this, I doubt, that you really can make it to get in such a school without very good german language skills. Furthermore I do not know, what the demand for dancing instructors currently is like.

The other domain comprises the dancing clubs like,, http://,, which all are located around a 20 km distance around Nuremberg. From my peek on your homepage it seems to me, that this is what you are more used to. In such clubs you find people who are very much into dancing and I could imagine, that depending on your skills and teaching practice, you might find customers for private lessons there.

And the third domain is Salsa: There are a lot of german people being enthusiastic Salseros and so there are a number of Salsa locations (e.g. and Salsa classes offerings. Many of them are provided by latin-american people. So maybe you can try to go in this direction.
