Surfing anonymously (TV/Torrents/etc)

One of the problems with streaming via a VPN is it slows down the connection, resulting in a ton of buffering. One alternative I'm just trying is Unotelly.com it uses DNS server changes so it doesn't slow down the connection. Also I would look specifically for a VPN that is optimized for streaming. I'm using Hotspot and will let it expire.

If you're only doing occasional torrenting I'd recommend Streamza, basically it streams to torrent without downloading.

Sadly as long as copy write holders hold sway bit torrent will be the only way to be ensured of a quality copy.

... Sadly as long as copy write holders hold sway ...

What do you expect from copyright holders then? Would you let any Tom, Dick & Harry download for free anything that you'd spent hours, days, weeks, months or years creating?

The problem with something like a DNS changer is that it does nothing to protect you. Your ISP still knows full well where your connecting to. What you want is a VPN who's company is outside the reach of the EU, that rents servers inside the EU for speed and most importantly doesnt keep connection logs and uses multiple connections per IP address. I recommend Boleh VPN, its what i use. They are out of Singapore and have servers in Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Canada, USA, and Hong Kong. Although i only recommend connecting to Sweden/Switzerland/Netherlands if your going to do anything that you want to be sure to hide. As for speed, I have a 30mbit connection and get about 25mbit speed from any of the countries i listed. Also connection to the USA vpn i can stream netflix HD with out any lag or timeouts. If your interested then here's my signup link where we'll both get some free time from it

Dude you got it backwards, people "steal" and notice I put that into brackets, because they can't get content legally. More than happy to pay for my TV but I tried calling sky UK to order their top tier package once I gave them a German address, they told me to to keep my money and F off. Same with Hulu and any US programs which aren't sold over here. No VPN no telly! Secondly it a serious misconception is that artists are being hurt by illegal torrenting and copying (to be far in my day copying a record actually meant going to the work or recording it on a CD not downloading 10,000 songs in a matter o of minutes), far from the truth, in spite of wide spread downloading both the music and movies industries are going gang busters. The people hurting the artists are the record companies, stealing from them is standard policy.

Soooooo to correct your comment: What do you expect from copyright holders then? Would you let any Tom, Dick & Harry download AND PAY for stuff that you'd spent hours, days, weeks, months or years creating? Never

@ dj LiTh my VPN must be crap because I have tons of problems with lag, so bad I've stopped using it. And do you know if if will work with a smart TV?

You are talking such Horse shit!

Almost everything shown on TV, Be it a Sit-com, Documentary or Film is available to buy legally from Amazon/Apple TV etc.

You may well have called sky and they told you to F-off, but this is more than likely AFTER you spoke with Bavaria Satellites and baulked at the price.

Hulu isnt available here as they dont pay the copywright fees to show the programme/movie outside of the states... and to assist with preventing this, they have to Geo_block.. A VPN will work its way around this Geo-block, but you still Pay to view the film anyway..

Your general Attidude leads me to the conclusion that you are probably one of those people that deserve one of the Lawyers letters.

Well now, THM, I have a little secret for you. Those " " things are usually referred to as quotation marks, not brackets. You really ought to begin trying harder in more than just this one direction or you might end up getting absolutely everything wrong.

I was being sarcastic if you case you didn't notice, and as far as I'm concerned getting something via the grey market is no different than downloading it via bit torrent, and torrenting is no different than recording something. The term stealing is the one usually used by the industry and in the context of expats probably the wrong term.

@ Ancient Brit correct my bad.

Bit of an update here. Copy-write holder is probably the wrong term to use, better is the entertainment industry and they are all rich fat cats who care nothing about the end consumer. I just spent hours upon hours (detailed elsewhere in the proper thread) trying to get streaming TV working. What a frigging nightmare, it is any wonder that people torrent, the pricks, pardon my German, make it almost impossible to watch popular shows. As I said they are all rich and could care less about the poor end comsumer

end rant

As to surfing anonymously, a VPN works great but for streaming TV a Smart DNS works best, won't hide your IP address but it doesn't matter, unless you're watching redtube of course, as currently it's not illegal.

Is Redtube illegal? Can anyone explain how you can be sent a bill by a German lawyer for watching Internet porn?

Details here

Allegedly a German judge thought, or was led to believe, that Redtube was a file sharing site. A legal firm representing a company that owns rights to some of the material streamed from Redtube was thus able to force ISPs to reveal the details of people who had visited Redtube. They have sent bills to "at least 10000 people" .

A different legal firm is now working to defend those that appear to have been wrongly accused.

In addition scammers have have been sending out similar letters also demanding payment.
