Favourite Christmas songs

117 posts in this topic

It is that time of year again. Good food, drink, family and friends. Then there are those Christmas songs that tear apart anyone with half a heart. What are your perennial favorites? I’ll start:

Song; Christmas Must Be Tonight

Band/singer: The Band

Album: Islands

Comments: Man, I love this song, and have so for over 25 years. Robbie Robertson's wrote "Christmas Must Be Tonight", after the birth of his son in July 1975. And Rick Danko sings it with his heart and soul.

and the other is "Christmas in Killarney" - the vesion by Anne Murray (a Canadian singer who's music my mother would drill into our head as children)

Careful you don't get the "Love Actually" version that ends with "... you... and you, and you, and you, and you..."

If you were a timelord you could give your heart to two people at the same time and hedge your bets.

I'll echo "Fairytale of New York" and also add

"Christmastime in Hollis" Run DMC

"Christmas Wrapping" the Waitresses

"It Must Have Been Old Santa Claus" Harry Connick Jr. (sorry, it's actually really good)

Somebody'll get around to "Happy X-mas (War is Over)" by John Lennon but I'll go ahead and mention it.

"Christmas Time in the LBC" - Snoop Dogg

"White Christmas" - Bing Crosby

Any any Christmas song sung by Nat King Cole because they just sound so pretty when he sings them. Except for Oh Tannenbaum - his German is not believable.
