Excellent innings Eric!

Bloody genius with masterful comic timing despite being pretty much deaf.

RIP Eric, have fun wherever you may be with the rest of the Carry On crew.

Ah, Eric Sykes, Hattie Jacques and Derek Guyler. They don't make 'em like that any more. Thanks for many happy years. RIP

I was a fan as a kid.

But I'd thought he died in the 70's til I saw him appearing in "New Tricks". And concluded he was still alive!

This Episode. post-7126-1341400545766.jpg

"New tricks" is known for using well known, pre-grave, actors.

RIP. Didn't he do a film where they only say Rhubard rhubarb all the time?

I wonder whether we get the British slang word " plank " (idiot) from that sketch?

What a loss to comedy, a true great amongst comics and writers.

Even though he was deaf, he still managed to act with great timing.

Towards the end he was also going blind, I heard the story that he was writing a script and his pen ran out of ink, unbeknown to him.

He handed the script to his secretary, where she told him they were just blank pages.

She gave him a new pen and he finished the job.

Thanks for the memories Eric. R I P.

Given that he was 89, I'm sure it was more than his pen that ran out of ink.
