Stupid names for children

806 posts in this topic

Parents are increasingly opting for unusual names to allow their children to stand out from the crowd.

Ikea, Moet, Bambi and Skylark have all been registered in Britain in the last 12 months.

Do you know anybody with an unusual name? What is the most bizarre name you have come across?

My son's middle name is Tiberius!

Mark, Worcester Park, Surrey

I can see 3 Loins doing the same thing.

My daughter is called Lambrini. I like that it's individual - I'd like to think she's the only one in the country.

Gareth Evans, Andover

Brilliant. He's named his child after a brand of cheapo sparkling wine. Genius.

It's worth having a look at Notwithoutmyhandbag.com on this particular subject.

My cousin named her 3 daughters Orenda, Aurelia and Rhapsody. Pretentiousness runs in the family.

Consider yourself lucky, if you'd been in that branch of the family you might have ended up as Saliva.

Isn't he a Scientologist? I thought he was so cool until I heard that.

No such luck, Saliva was my schoolyard nickname. Or Golda. <_<

@Gideon - I really like your name :) I was supposed to be a Vilja so I'm pretty happy with Silva.

There's also something to be said for poorly chosen name combinations. For example, I know a guy named Richard Morehead. :o

if I had a daughter, I would name her Nova - that way, at least the spanish speaking boys would get the idea.

@SiM - not saying

whenever I've told people in the past they seemed to think it was a really jolly jape to start calling me by it

i do like to think that I have a sense of humour, but there *are* limits
