There's a new monthly magazine on the market to help those struggling to learn or improve their German - "Deutsch Perfekt" from the publishers of "Spotlight", a longstanding bi-lingual magazine in the German speaking countries (which is predominantly targetted at German speakers learning English). I have written or advised on articles for Spotlight in the past, so am familiar with the general style and magazine management - they are a good crowd (I've not had dealings withn them for some years, however!)

You can buy individual copies on larger newstands, a sample (2-issue) subscription for €7.40 or pay for 12 months for €59.40. Deutsch Perfekt is also available as an e-magazine, and for bona-fide language teachers comes with a teaching supplement at no extra charge.

Signed up - all helps, and I devour magazines! Amusingly when subscribing you go through in English and then as soon as they get your cash it is "straight in the deep end" with a German confirmation screen:

Vielen Dank für Ihre Bestellung. Sie erhalten außerdem eine Bestellbestätigung per E-Mail.

In allen Fragen zu Ihrem Abonnement hilft Ihnen unsere Kundenbetreuung gerne weiter - auf Deutsch oder Englisch. Auch wenn Sie Deutsch perfekt verschenken wollen oder wenn sich Ihre Adresse ändert: Unser freundliches Service-Team ist für Sie da!

My Volkschule Deutsch teacher told us about it. Seemed like a good portion of the class might end up gettin subscriptions. I picked up a copy at one of the magazine stands at the Haupfbahnof.

Good stuff!

Although I've not seen a copy (maybe they should send me a complimentary copy now for the advertising!) I think there's a good market for this type of thing. Magazines are so much easier to read than dreary longwinded courses and books...

I like riding motorbike magazines - but in German they are just too difficult for me - too many obscure or strange "made up" and slang words, some not even in the dictionary. Roll on the day when I can follow all that stuff as well.

I might however bring the November copy of Bike to the curry so you can read and weep.

Hi there,

Just wondering if you had a chance to look at the magazine yet and if you think its any good?

I'm in Australia right now so it will be expensive to get the paper version... but the electronic version just isn't the same. Who sits in front of their computer to read and learn?? So if it's worth it I will maybe get at least the first edition sent over.

Yeah, that magazine looks thrilling.

A group of fashion victim fratboys on the cover should sell lots of copies. Oh and an airplane.

Sign me up for a lifetime abo.

@J X - I think you need to view this in perspective. It is pretty much just an alternative textbook for German with hopefully some more interesting subject matter than how to buy a kilo of apples, and a pint of milk.

Yeah I know Johnny :)

By the way, does that Richtig Reagieren booklet advise new arrivals on the best method of action when spotting someone crossing the street when the little man is still red?

Or perhaps the best method of getting to the front when a new till is opened in a supermarket?

:P

Journalist of "Deutsch Perfekt" is looking for a beginner in German.

Dear members of this forum,

I am journalist at the new magazine mentioned in your forum. I am urgently looking for a person

to test a German newspaper and give me a small interview about it.

You would read three editions of the German paper "die tageszeitung" and tell me how you felt with it afterwards and give me a small photo to be published. I am looking for a BEGINNER in German with only a basic knowledge of German.

You will receive 25 Euros for this favour. Please contact me immediately (it´s very urgent) on my mobile phone: 0179-1080536 or at my E-Mail address: ninaschoen@yahoo.com

I would be very grateful for this favor.

Kind regards,

Nina Schönmeier
