Stopping paper statements from Sparkasse

I have a question regarding these paper statements. I don't seem to ever be getting them. Is it their policy by default to not send statements? I will be going to the bank after and will get a paper copy. But I never receive any mail...

If you've been printing out your statements at your bank they won't send you anything in the mail.

You're expected to print your own bank statements at one of the branches (Kontoauszugsdrucker). Normally, if you don't pick up your statements at a printer for a while, they'll print it out and mail it to you.

Incidentally, there was also a recent court judgment ruling that banks can't charge more than the actual postage fees for mailing you your statements, as it's a service that is intimately tied with having a bank account (in the same vein of the ruling several years ago that they can't charge you for more for getting cash from a counter instead of from an ATM).

I have printed out my statements once in a three month period... how often do I have to do this? Also, I printed them out by accident, so which button to I press to get my statements at the ATM?

Danke

You don't get them at the ATM. You get them at a Kontoauszugsdrucker (or possibly a Kundenterminal, if they're a bit more high-tech).

I don't have an account with Sparkasse, but I suspect it works similarly to my other accounts. "The system" wants to ensure that you have received your monthly statement in time. Therefore, if you have not retrieved it in a timely manner in some other way, it will mail out a copy to you (and charge you for it). Ways to avoid this:

  • Print out your statement at a Kontoauszugdrucker
  • Download the statement from the online banking website (you don't need to actually print it out at your end, it simply needs to be marked as "read" in their system).

At my bank, I have the possibility of requesting an email reminder when a new Kontoauszug is ready. This makes it easier to remember to retrieve it from online banking in time, thereby avoiding the mailed copy.

Is the Kontoauszugdrucker the machine that is usually next to the ATM machine? When I walk into the front of the Sparkasse there are two machines there but I have never used the other one...

I used to print them from the website but for some reason, the system did not register and I would get it by mail anyway (and get charged). The 2nd time it happened, I went to the bank and complained and they said oh, we don't know, just check if it happens next month again. I changed banks shortly after that, not necessarily because of this but if you have an account with fees and you can get one with no fees, then why pay?

Leegit, the Kontoauszugdrucker is the machine with no number-pad to enter your pin etc. Put the card in, out comes statement.

Anyone able to help me figure out how to get online statements with my online Sparkasse account? I can check transactions, but don's see monthly statements, and they mail them every month. From the posts above, I can't tell if simply viewing transactions online will stop the mailed monthly statements or not.

One Sparkasse can be different from another, but generally if you fail to print out your statements inside the bank every three months and carry them off home, they'll mail 'em to you and charge you postage for the privilege.

I prefer to have paper statements for various reasons, but I checked with my Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden.

Here, you can set your account up not only for online banking but also for all statements and other communications to be paperless by opening an optional "elektronisches Postfach". Once opened, they will no longer snailmail your statements.

Maybe your Sparkasse offers the same thing.

Hey Guys

I'm banking with Berliner Sparkasse I need to get hold of statements from 2015-2017

The online search says there is nothing to find in 2014,15, 16 and the beginning of 2017

Do they have a record of my statements on line? (I have downloaded the statements from 2018-2020)

Anyone know of  good way to deal with this?

Thanks...

I know I can only see two years back online also. Ask at the counter might be the best bet, but there is probably a fee.

Why do you need them as a matter of interest?
