I honestly cannot say if any of these programs are any good, if you are able to be accepted by living out of country, or anything, really. But it should give you a good starting point.

 

Just out of curiosity, why a German MBA by Fernstudium? Surely if you were going to do an MBA online, there are better English-speaking universities to get one from?

Hello, everyone and thank you, everyone. I plan to work in Azerbaijan for now, but for future, I might decide on moving overseas. Unfortunately, I do not speak German, I only speak English and poor French. There is a quite number of online MBA providers in UK, however, their prices are too high for me. I was thinking that German Universities could be less expensive. Also, I was informed by one of my German colleagues that there are no fees applied in some German public universities. Therefore, I was wondering if any of you have any idea of getting scholarship to study online MBA at German or any other universities.

Although not all universities charge tuition, many are still charging 500€ per semester (which is hardly anything, mind).

 

Your bigger problem will be that you don't speak German, and most programs will be offered in German. This means you have to pass the TestDAF, though some distance unis (like Hagen, for example) may be willing to accept a 3 on the test rather than needing either 4s or 5s, which is the general rule for university acceptance.

 

I cannot imagine searching into every online MBA offered in Germany for you, but from the short poking around I have done, you probably will not find an MBA program with no tuition that is offered in English.

 

Even if you do, will it be of any use to you at home, or if you move abroad to a country other than Germany?

I'd be very interested to hear where you found an MBA for 500 a semester - Mine cost 18k and it was lower-mid price.

If someone is looking for an inexpensive MBA offered in English via distance learning, the University of South Africa or another school in Africa or India might be the best option.

 

It really isn't reasonable to expect German universities to offer MBA programs in English with no tuition at all.

Lady05: I fear you are labouring from some misconception about the German university system. Yes, NORMAL studies in Germany for students present and living in Germany are more or less still free (with some additional costs/fees on the side, but still). But this is certainly not true for an MBA, which is not (yet) a normal study in Germany. MBA programms, notably those in English, cost real money. And online programms, too.

And for someone who stays abroad their can't be an grants or scholarship either - that is reserved for people who come to Germany, I am afraid.

MBAs aren't rare. Online MBA courses aren't either. Even MBA courses in English only aren't that rare iirc. MBAs offered by reputable institutes are somewhat rare though. And it's the combination of all this that's virtually impossible to find.

 

As for scholarships - forget about it really. e-fellows lists a handful, and exactly one for distance learning (at GGS).

 

@pog451: Cheapest i can find quickly is FH Coburg, fulltime MBA in Financial Management, for 1500/semester (6k total). In English even. And that's damn cheap for an MBA.

German MBAs are almost always in (sometimes bad) english, I havent come across a truly German one. The second problem is that they are usually based on a low-level UK course. Im sure if you looked closely at Coburgs small print it will say "in cooperation with XXX" somewhere. The 6 grand is for a two-year residential course with specialisation in financial management or Insurance - very specialised and not very useful unless you need those specialities. For some reason their straight economics masters is an MA, not an MBA, which makes me smell a rat.

Exactly, El Jeffo. An MBA in Economics would be the one to raise eyebrows, not an MA (in some places it might be an MS).

- Coming from Azerbijan you will not qualify for 'free' tutelage in Germany

- Germany does not offer any offline MBAs of note (apart from the WHU private Uni, 36,000 Euro for 3 semesters)

- The whole point of an MBA is not what you learn (how to use excel, become an arrogant bastard, not learn anything apart from how to 'manage' people badly and, become and arrogant bastard) but the alumni you study with. Distance learning and MBAs are mutually exclusive.

 

You would be better off doing an old fashioned business (+ something-else) degree from a reputable online university in the English speaking world. International-English (no proof reading, no style, bad spelling) is the language of commerce. A business degree will just get your foot in the door. You will learn more in 3 months in a company than you will during your entire degree. MBAs don't learn more, they simply meet more influential people, hence 'success'.

Tuition is the same for all students at German universities, right? The fact the OP is from Azerbaijan is thus irrelevant to that issue.

Bavaria, the only state that will keep demanding tuition (once Baden-Württemberg drops it next year, NRW this year), currently does not have an upper tuition cap for weiterbildende Studiengänge (ie. here MBA), although there's a proposal to cap it at €2000/semester at state universities. Universities in Bavaria are currently completely free to apply tuition for such courses in various models, including e.g. higher fees for non-Germans.

Recommendation Nr. 1: Dont. If you are going online anyway take up one of the bigger online courses. Most german MBAs and certainly online ones are actually adopted courses from UK schools and often from the more minor UK schools. Although course materials may well be in English, often the teachers speak poor english.

 

I did mine with the OU and can throughly recommend it, I have heard good things about Henley too. Even online, you will need (and want) to attend a certain number of seminars and extra courses - With the OU there is a good chance that there will be one fairly local to you, a German course would usually require you to be in Germany quite frequently (no course is purely online and I wouldnt recommend doing one that was)

Its a heads down - Forget it. Everyone and their dog wants an MBA and the reason most Unis offer one is because they can charge good money for them. Scholarships for residential courses are available but you need to be the best of the best. No-one is offering schlarships for European online MBAs. You may be able to get sponsored but you would have to get a job with a company who wants to sponsor you, have you asked the company you work for?

I didnt look closely enough but you may be right. The MA was in BWL, whereas the MBA offered were specialist.
