Mountain biking around HH

Hi, what would be the best options for easy access to mountain biking near hamburg? Even just for a day ride. Anyone interested in riding or know where I can find some trails?

Hi there,

What kind of bike are you riding? What's your riding style? If you are in to XC there should be some trails at Harburger Berge, Pinneberg and up in the North. If you are in to more 'extreme' riding, you are screwed ;) There are some trails (well trails, just some lines to ride) at Volkspark, Pinneberg and in the East of Hamburg but after riding for 10 minutes you are done and bored...

I ride a Reign X , but it has been pretty much untouched since I moved to Hamburg, no trails or whatsoever around. Been to Hahnenklee (Harz) once, but planning doing on more trips up there this summer.

Maybe we can organize something this summer with the Toytown riders? (if there are any)

Hi there. I am wondering if anything ever came out of this conversation? I am moving to Hamburg next month (June 2014) from Santa Barbara, California and am hoping to find some fellow mountain bike enthusiasts. I know getting good rides will require some driving, but I'm wiling to do whatever it takes. Please be in touch if you are interested in riding or know of any groups worth checking out. Thanks!

Hey, there's a nature reserve south of Hamburg (train ride from Hamburg central to the reserve 20min) called "Harburger Berge" which is pretty huge and has lots of trails. Don't know about any groups yet, especially english speaking groups, that one could join, but I can check a german mtb forum and see if there are any english guys around. But once you here, give me a call and you can either join me on the weekends or I'll help you with translations from the german forums (if that is of any help). Cheers

Hi there, I recently moved just south of Hamburg, Neugraben and its true what others have said, there are some trails and tracks in the forest around here, quite alot actually, I go riding in there most weekends now, went wth a buddy on Saturday, goodtimes. I am very new to MTbiking so I do not need much to satisfy myself but you could join me one of these days. (super unfit, may require walking breaks)

This event is a far cry from mountain biking, but may be a good way to meet some other bikers. One of the two clubs behind the event seem to also have a mountain biking group. You can get to Luneburg easily with the Metronom, and can take your bike with you for a few Euros.

Cool NZMAN, you got the whole playground right infront of your house then. I normally get off the train at Neuwiedental station and head off to the east side of the forest and then head over to the west past that animal sanctuary/zoo thing through the forest. So would it be easier to get off the station Neugraben and head south of there?

I've only gone as far as the old army tank playground past the airfield. Have you gone south beyond that yet?

Hi, I'm in Hamburg for a while already and I also tried to explore mtb possibilities. There are several "forests" and nature reserves inside or on the edge of Hamburg, which are nice, but pretty much flat. As others say, the best nearby are Harburger Berge with a lot of (short) trails. Some hills are also in the north.

It would be nice to join some other mtb enthusiast which do speak english :) Most people I know here just ride bike to work..

I usually go for a longer ride on weekends, if someone wants to join me.

Hi all!

Specially the people interested in findind MTB enthusiastic (nzman, bam, ...) I´ve been more than a year in HH already, only with a really ugly city bike :), since I did not bring my old MTB from Spain. But I have now finally order a new one, and is hopefully here by the end of August. Maybe we could arrange something for the next month, in order to explore those forest around Harburg that you were talking about in May.

Still interested? let´s be in touch!

BR

Miguel

Hi BigBafana, and fellow mountain biking enthusiasts - if you find any good trails, groups etc I have a 15 year old who is crazy about mountain biking - we're fresh from Oakland Redwood Park Hills, CA and my son is traumatized that he can no longer mountain bike - he's also a long distance road biker so if anyone is arranging anything please contact us - we're in Lüneburg.

Big Bafana, is there a South African club in Hamburg? I'm from Cape Town.

I’m moving to HH in a few days, anyone still up for rides?

Also I need to buy a bike when I get there, any tips on good bike shops? Or even second hand.

i don’t need anything hardcore, just entry level XC, that is ok for jumps. I just sold my 2018 specialised rockhopper, and want something similar.

cheers guys(& girls or whatever else you may happen to identify yourself as)

So I found the dirt jumps in Altona volkspark - and that is super fun for learning to jump.  Gonna go check out harbinger berge tomorrow, I’ve heard there’s some nice xcountry there.
