What irritated you today?

The German football commentator always sounds like he's reading from a grocery list and then oh suddenly has to pee/take a dump really bad. If I owned a pub I'd show the Bundesliga games dubbed over with random audio from Mexican league games. Opera vs. a proctology exam.

All the traffic lights that aren't programmed to detect my holy presence with detectors rather than timers. Come on man, this is fucking 2012! And while I'm in an irritated mood, what's the freakin difference between the vent and this thread?

This is the vent for the English, and I'm mildly irritated that you didn't know that. (not really but got to keep on subject :P )

Got to the Uni-Kliniken and completed the signing-in formalities half an hour before the appointment time. Then was told that I was supposed to have been there at 9 a.m. (original appointment made only yesterday was for 11 a.m. today). They had left a message on my answer phone. But I don't have a machine, I replied. But we rang this number. Turned out they'd an extra 8 to my number. This despite the fact that I had stated it slowly and clearly twice on their machine AND she had copied it down from the display.

Great.

In the end, I did get to see the specialist and he was lovely - as were all the staff members - and the root canal treatment was a doddle. Part two in April.

Excellent question. The way I interpret it is, "What irritated you today?" is equivalent to bumping your toe against a chair leg, maybe twice. "The Vent" is more along the lines of DEFCON 2 or 3. Much of "The Vent" content should likely be transferred to this thread, in order to keep "The Vent" pure and of high quality undegraded vent. TT needs a better system of gradation, perhaps on the model of the circles of hell in Dante's Inferno, for these different levels of random displeasure and social Armageddon.

Why o why are the only options for TÜV appointments at my garage either 7:45 or 8:00 am? Since I have a friend unexpectedly visiting and staying overnight, it would be nice to have time for a leisurely breakfast together... but apparently it's impossible to get any time slot other than one of two early ones?!

The Vent is non-chat, this isn't.

All of the little anti-US jabs that pop up on the news. If it is an opinion article about German eating habits, why is it even necessary to mention that it could be worse, like the United States "The Culinary 'Empire' of Terror and Gloominess"?? Also, stupid Taff talking about parents in the US who encourage their kids to cage fight. I know their stories are supposed to be sensationalist and blah blah blah, but why report about these people as if that is some sort of normal in the US?? It is really fecking irritating me today. <_<

(sorry for the poor translation of the German name calling)

Is it now? No need to get your knickers in a twist and throw a wobbly laddie. ;) (did that sound English?)

Your post made me chuckle, Gracias.

While washing a vase, it broke in my hands and sliced 2 fingers. Note to self: no more cheap glass vases.

Hooray for those special butterfly bandages... maybe I won't need stitches.

So I recently had "the talk" with my parents. You know, the one where you insist that they stop sending gifts with the outrageous postage that we have to deal with. I thought it went well and at the end I joked that they could send Betty Crocker cake mix and frosting to make birthdays special, because that stuff is hard to find here--they sent it.

Cost of cake mix and frosting = $6.15

Cost of postage from New York = $47.00

There they go now -- another two people who didn't push their chairs in. Well, if you've consumed as much coffee as most folks do then I guess you have more impeetant, I mean, important things to get to.

No matter how much work you do to design lessons for your students, there is always that one parent that has to let you know that their special snowflake is bored and needs the lessons to be specially designed for her.

Newsflash: I wouldn't have guessed in about 100 years that your child was either bored or working at a higher level then any other kid in the room. Your kid is not as advanced as you think she is.
