Cross-country ski tours

You lucky guys.  I remember Leutasch from back in 1966/67 when we spent a year in Munich (I was 15 then).  Two profs from the TU (incl. E.O. Fischer) had a chalet in Leutasch & people from the TU could stay there with their familes.  This was before Leutasch was developed - maybe there was one ski-lift.  The Konditorei was at the oppostie side of the valley.

Memories of being there Easter 1967 in deep snow & skiing in T-shirts.  Small avelanches pouring down the mountain (Öfelekopf?) opposite

Seefeld C2 circular

Sunday 17 January

  • 16 km circular route from Seefeld in Tirol
  • Grade: Black (difficult)
  • Suitable for: Enthusiastic intermediates, advanced
  • Technique: Classic and skating
  • Ski hire: Yes

Snow levels below about 1,000 metres are still meagre, so it's off further and higher to our reliable favourite of Seefeld in Tirol. This circular route (B1, B10, B3, C2 for the nerds) covers hilly terrain with lunch at the legendary Wildmoosalm. The route is predominantly red (medium) but the descent back down into Seefeld is black (difficult), so requires a reasonable level of experience.

Meeting time on Sunday is 8.10 a.m. in front of Radius Tours (by platforms 27-36 of Munich Hauptbahnhof). Journey time to Seefeld (ski hire, lockers) is 2:15h. Expected arrival time back in Munich is 7.30 p.m. Travel costs will be around €8 for the German train ticket and around the same again for the Austrian stretch. There is also a €9 trail fee.
