@Nordkapp: This tour requires previous skiing experience. We do run beginners tours when the season gets going, although there will be a discussion about the age of your son.

Reit im Winkl training trail

Sunday 3 January

  • 2-kilometre training loop on artificial snow
  • Grade: Blue (easy)
  • Suitable for: Beginners, intermediate, advanced
  • Ski hire: Yes

Travelling for two hours in order to ski in circles around a field won't be everyone's cup of tea, but desperate times call for desperate measures. At least it will look and feel wintry, with temperatures around zero and a thin layer of snow. Reit im Winkl has a 2-kilometre groomed cross-country trail made with artificial snow. You can use the opportunity to try out the sport if you're a complete beginner, to practice your classic or skating technique, or just to burn off some Christmas calories. Then afterwards we'll have a late lunch so you can eat and drink the calories back again.

Meeting time on Sunday 3 January is 9.35 a.m. on Platform 11 of Munich Hauptbahnhof (by Starbucks). It's a 2-hour journey followed by 2 hours of skiing followed by a 2-hour lunch followed by a 2-hour journey back again. That means an arrival time back in Munich of 6pm. We share group Bayern Tickets (about €10 per person). Please sign up below to join.

The real snow is on its way so there's hope for normal tours again next week.

Leutasch

Sunday 10 January

  • 15-kilometre route on actual real snow!
  • Grade: Blue (easy)
  • Suitable for: Intermediate, advanced
  • Ski hire: Yes

We go where there's snow and there is snow in Leutasch (part of the extensive Seefeld in Tirol network). The relatively long journey time (train and bus around 2.5 hours) is counterbalanced by the good snow and beautiful scenery. The exact route we ski will depend on snow and weather conditions, but expect about 15 kilometres on flat trails. Due to its length and possible weather conditions the tour requires previous experience of cross-country skiing.

Meeting time on Sunday is 8.10 a.m. in front of Radius Tours (by platforms 27-36 of Munich Hauptbahnhof). Lunch may be earlier or later depending on the route we take. Expected arrival time back in Munich is 7.30 p.m. Travel costs will be around €8 for the train ticket plus another few euros for the bus tickets. There is also a €9 trail fee. Please sign up below to join.
