Lots of snow today, not many people, very peaceful. Next tour on Sunday; destination TBD depending on weather (inevitably, there is rain on the way).

The weather forecast for the weekend is a bit temperamental, with rain on Saturday night at some point turning into snow. In order to increase our chances of skiing on fresh snow and in falling snow rather than on ice/slush and in rain/sleet, we'll head up a little higher to the Zugspitz Arena in the Austrian Ausserfern, at a height of 1,000 metres and up. The route to Weissensee and back is around 15 km and a mix of blue (easy) and red (medium difficulty) trails. The tour is open to any reasonably competent cross-country or downhill skier. Ski hire is available but unfortunately involves a 15-minute walk from the train station (on the way back there's a bus that connects with the train).

Meeting time on Sunday is 8.50 a.m. outside Radius Tours by platforms 26-37 of Munich Hauptbahnhof. Journey time to Ehrwald is 1.40h (direct). Upon arrival those that need ski hire get that sorted out while the rest ski a short loop to keep warm. Regrouped, we initially follow the flat valley trails to Biberwier before joining the Weissensee-Loipe, heading gently uphill to the lake. Retracing our steps we stop for lunch in Biberwier before taking a different route back to Ehrwald. Arrival time back in Munich is 6.45 p.m.
